Tales of Valoran 1
I have come to decide that after all time’s passed that I came out of hiding to reveal Valoran’s past piece by piece. My name is Kaellos and I am an Archiever who belongs to a long forgotten clan of these lands. My clan’s task throughout the ages has been to keep record of every event which has ever occurred in Valoran since the Dawn. Today I bring the Summoner’s of the Institute of War the Tale of Runeous, the kingdom which compromised the lands of Noxus and Demacia. Runeous was a great and powerful Kingdom run by a great king and his two sons who where his Generals of War. Upon his death the king was suppose to have chosen and heir to the throne of Runeous, but never did. The lacks of an Heir lead his two sons to quarrel over the throne and which direction the kingdom would take to become even greater. Dante, the son who preferred strength as a display of might, sought to conquer the lands to the North of Runeous in order to become a force recognized by all, but his twin brother Gareth had ideals contrary to his. Gareth sought to unite the lands North of Runeous through treaties and only thought it necessary to exert force when in war or when employing justice to the wicked. At first the brothers only bickered between one another, however events escalated when a piece of parchment bearing their father’s handwriting was discovered in his study by Morrigan, head of the Black Rose clan, upon discovering the parchment she set her dark intentions into motion. Morrigan was the high Sorceress of Runeous and was devoted to the King, but when he had passed away she thought his sons were incapable of running the kingdom as their father had so she devised a plan to turn the brothers against one another and then in the chaos of their fighting she would assume control of the kingdom. Morrigan’s plan was all set she just needed a catalyst which she found in the old king’s study. Morrigan had created duplicates of the note and changed the contexts of the parchment in order to pit the two brothers against each other. When both brothers received the parchment from Morrigan’s servants, each called a meeting of all of the kingdom’s Nobles and Warriors together in the throne room in order to claim the throne of Runeous which they were deceived into thinking that they were the heir. When both brothers had entered the throne room, a long silent pause filled the room with each brother gazing the other in the eyes. Both Dante and Gareth were warned by Morrigan’s servants that the other would try to seize the throne before they had a chance to reveal the parchment to the assembly of nobles and warriors. Despite the warnings they had received, the brothers greated each other warmly as though they knew nothing but when they decided to announce their claim to the throne, Morrigan emerged out of the crowd of Nobles and Warriors with an inquiry as to what each brother had to announce which was so important that they had to call an assembly as grand. Both brothers decided to announce the occasion together as was their brotherly tradition, but when they neared the end of their announcement as to who the heir was, they read out loud their own name from the parchment as Morrigan had made them. This one little change in the parchment that each brother had threw Morrigan’s intentions into motion, each brother exchanged their parchments and as soon as they finished reading them accused the other of forgery and attempting to steal the throne which they thought was rightfully theirs. The issue became worse when the Nobles and Warriors who were present began to argue amongst themselves as to who was the true heir to the throne. The argument along with the accusations each brother held against one another began what was known as The War of Two Brothers of Runeous. Dante and Gareth no longer trusted the other’s words and instead they degraded their kinship into war. Dante chose to wield an axe to signal his show of strength, while Gareth chose to bear a long sword as a sign of his chivalry and justice. Each brother collected the Warriors who followed the brothers ideals and built their army from the funds the Nobles who supported each brother. Dante took his followers and his army and built the city-state of Noxus while Gareth and his followers built the city-state of Demacia. The name of each city-state was taken from their names which they received on the battlefield. Dante was known as Noxus for his relentless attacks and lack of mercy towards the weak, while Gareth was known as Demacia for his pursuit of justice and equality between all classes of society. The brothers armies first met when each brother attempted to claim their father’s armory for themselves, the battle lasted a full month before neither army had the willpower or resources to continue. As time passed Dante and Gareth had countless battles all over Runeous, during this time Morrigan had been inserting her own clan in both armies to prolong the war between the brothers, but before she could claim the throne the brothers agreed to a cease-fire agreement between their two city-states after they had realized that neither was getting anywhere with the war which had been going on for 20 years. Morrigan realizing that the cease-fire could not last for long decided to go into hiding while the next opportunity for her to claim Runeous came to frutition, sadly Morrigan had passed away before the next opportunity came along, however she did leave a child behind who to this day is continuing her mothers work deceiving those who would be the stepping stones to her arise to power. That is the tale of Runeous and of how Noxus and Demacia came to be, I know that the blood relatives of Dante and Gareth are still at ends but for now they are back to being how they were when they were still brothers under one King. My only fear is that history repeats itself and once again the Black Rose clan puppeteers the deaths of not only two city-states but also all of Valoran.
Note: This is the second time I have posted this Journal/Tale due to Riot removng it from the Story & Art boards. I do plan on writing more when I have the time, also I might change the name of the posts to: Tales of Runeterra. This is because I am eager to write stories about the Void and a majority of the factions that exist in Runeterra. I would like to hear your guys feed back and I hope you enjoy this and many more Tales to come.
