[Fan Fiction] Dawn of the Glorious Evolution (part 6)
Rain, there wasn't much that I could notice today, but it is very clear that it is raining. The sun is blocked out by the clouds, you can barely see a ray of light shining through, we are truly in the darkness. The rain feels good, it is a nice distraction from the events that had passed, and the knowledge of the events to come. The gates to Noxus opened, slowly we trudged through into the plaza, the sounds of our footsteps splashing in the puddles was muffled by the sound of cheers from our families welcoming their heroes back into the city. Heroes, what a weird concept, someone who does something right based on the values of the masses. We were not heroes, we lost so much and gained so little. A woman, one of the mothers, came out to us, asking why there were so few of us, asking us, "Where's my son? Where's my little boy?" I'm glad it is raining today, it made it easier to hide our tears. The woman fell to her knees, wailing from her despair, the celebrations were drowned out by her cries. It took everything I had not to kneel down with her and despair, I just had to, look away. It was difficult to ignore what happened, losing so many of our men, our heroes dying before our eyes. We thought Sion was invincible, we were brought up on legends about him, the perfect soldier, he was the antonym of surrender, to see him, dismembered like that, the will to fight was lost, the unstoppable juggernaut stopped by a nightmare, it would be funny if it wasn't so tragic. Jarvan, he was the last hope for the demacians, but rage took hold of him, an emotion, its raw power took him away from sensibility and plunged him into darkness. Now all thats left of him is a head, sitting as a trophy to a mad man. Draven fell just like all the others, he wasn't some godlike being, he was just a man, and his death threw his brother into a madness that tore across the battlefield. He did not care who was in the way of his axe, he just kept swinging until there was nothing around him. He fell to knees, holding his brother in his hands. All there was, was destruction, Darius cleaved a bloody path to the nightmare that slew so many of our heroes. He did not go in alone, he had the help from the might of Demacia, he had more reason than anyone to want it dead. Together they took down the monster, but darius wouldn't stop there, he was rabid. In the end, they took each other out. There wasn't much fight left in me after that, I threw down my sword and my shield, and walked away from the battlefield, I wasn't alone, more and more men just gave up. When the Grand general caught up with us afterwards, I was sure my death was to follow, hell if he didn't need us in the town, I probably would be dead. A gunshot, It wasn't very far away, but who was shooting, who was he shooting at? The sounds of the crowd died down, all anyone could hear was the rain beating down on the ground and on our armour. The Grand General collapsed, blood began to trickle out from his chest, so he was the one who was shot. We weren't surprised, we knew this was to come upon entering the city, the repercussions for our actions, our defeat. We deserved what was going to happen, leaving the battlefield, not dying with our comrades. We didn't have the strength to even draw our weapons, didn't have the will to fight back. People, ordinary citizens emerged from the crowd carrying knives, and we let them come, we were ready to accept the embrace of death. A sharp pain in my back, a blade, sloppy. If these people knew how to fight I would be dead already, I turned around to see the face of my executioner. He was just a boy, barely over eighteen. I took the knife out of my back and had him grip it properly, guiding his hands to my heart, through the weak spot in my armour. Finally, I can join my brethren, I don't care what's going to happen to this city now, it's not my problem any longer.
Chaos, that would be a good word to describe the city of Noxus. The revolutionaries just began causing mayhem, looking for any excuse to be violent. They were like cultists, trying to spread the teachings of their prophet upon the people. and killing those who wouldn't join them, there was no one left to stop them. They began destroying government buildings, bringing down the establishment, publicly executing those in power for the crime of having wealth. For them, this was justice, and soon they would answer to a higher power, become something greater. On the horizon you could see it, the moving city, the city of Acropolis approaching Noxus, a welcomed addition to the entropy. The gates crumbled, and a man walked through the wreckage. Viktor, arriving as if he was a king, and the people bowed down to him as if he was a god. He looked down on them, the men and women made of flesh, he looked up at the city, crumbling in his wake. It was good, but it was slow. He called forth his armies to assist with the process, and invited his followers into Acropolis. He turned around and saw a pile of bodies, on top was the body of Swain. He didn't personally know Swain, but he had heard of his exploits, of his strategic mind. Viktor was saddened, he would have very much liked to add him to his army as a military advisor. Viktor has some idea of tactics, but for most of his battles, he had just thrown out as many men as possible to overpower his enemy. He wasn't sure how long that plan would last, how long till the enemy gets just as many, if not more forces than he has. Preferably he wanted this war to end, a war he started, he just wants people to come to him willingly to evolve. Maybe one day, they will see that he is right in his actions, and history will remember him as a saviour rather than a conqueror.
Jayce burst into the lab, anger stricken on his face, his fury was very much apparent. He slammed the newspaper on Heimerdinger's desk. The yordle did not read it, he could already guess what it said, some news about Viktor. It was all the media talked about, the exploits of that scientist. Some papers would refer to him as a hero, others as a villain, it did not matter to Jayce, he knew what Viktor really was, just a man, drunk on technology. "What are we going to do about him?" Heimerdinger was confused by Jayce's question, he was planning on doing nothing. "Why should we do anything? He hasn't attacked Piltover, he isn't really our problem." Others in the lab began to look at the two of them, intrigued by the conversation, maybe this was the start of something. Jayce tried to explain to Heimerdinger, "Even if he isn't out problem, he is our responsibility. It may have been us that set him of on this crusade, and we may be the only ones capable of stopping him." Heimerdinger was astounded by Jayce's accusation, that they may have made Viktor into what he is now. Although he did feel pride thinking that his machines may be the only things capable of stopping Viktor, but he wanted to play the neutral party in political affairs. "By engaging Viktor in combat, we may set his sights on Piltover." Jayce slammed his fist on the table, his face was red, brow furrowed. "How many people have to lose their lives before we decide to act? If he doesn't head straight for Frejold the Zaun will be next in his sights. And then we'll be next, no matter what he will be coming for us eventually. Do you really want to just sit here and watch while more people get decimated in a preventable conflict?" Heimerdinger sat down, thinking hard about what Jayce said, he was right. But as they were now they didn't have the firepower for a decisive victory, and leaving things to chance was not his way. "Alright, but as we are now we cannot fight him. We shall prioritise work on the last Mecha, number 52, project Nashor."
