That is actually really badass. How did you do this?

It's quite simple actually, I just took his splash art and made some levels adjustments to bring out the light parts of the image and then converted it to monochrome. After that, I made the splash art into a pattern (have the layer with the splash art selected, then go to Edit > Define Pattern), made a white background layer over the splash art, and then another transparent layer to scribble on with the previously defined pattern using the brush tool (kinda like how you scribble on a piece of paper over a quarter or something and it reveals the indentations). After that, it was just making more fine scribbles to reveal the parts of the splash art that I wanted. To get the colors in there, I made a new layer, loosely scribbled on it and added a Gradient map to it (you can choose whatever color you'd like) and then made a clipping mask of the gradient map onto the freshly made layer. I don't know if you can get a decent understanding from that, If not I can list it more clearly in a step-by-step format if you'd like to do this yourself :)

wow that's awesome... did you make the whole thing using only cross hatching?

For the most part it is cross hatching, I only went a little wild with the colored streaks haha
