[CHAMPION CONCEPT] Terminus, the War Machine

This concept is very much in the works, and uses a new resource that probably has a kink or two in it, so feedback will be appreciated. Expect changes as I go.

General Concept

Terminus is a ranged AD caster Champion who uses a new resource called Ammo. Ammo is used when Terminus attacks and uses his abilities, and does not replenish normally on its own. Ammo is replenished either by returning to the fountain, or by using Terminus' R ability, Rearmament. Without Ammo, Terminus cannot use his basic abilities, but can still attack (albeit weakly).

Terminus excels at AOE damage and delivering punishing suppression fire, but also has some close-range utility if the enemy tries to get into a knife fight with him. He doesn't qualify as a ranged carry, however, since he has no attack steroid, and his base AD is low due to his passive.

Statistics (in development)

Abilities (feedback is greatly appreciated)

Ammo Resource

Terminus uses a new resource called Ammo, which is used with his basic attacks and abilities. Terminus can hold a maximum of 30 Ammo initially (this goes up to 60 upon maxing out his ultimate), which does not regenerate on its own. When Terminus' ammo goes to 0, he cannot use his basic abilities and his attacks become weaker. By using his R ability "Rearmament" (which he has available at level 1), he enters a state where he cannot attack or use abilities. Upon finishing this state, his Ammo returns to maximum.

P - Solid-Core Rounds

Whenever Terminus attacks, he deals bonus physical damage equal to 20% of his total attack damage, provided he has at least 1 Ammo. Terminus consumes 1 Ammo each time he performs a basic attack. When Terminus has 0 Ammo, the bonus damage is not dealt.

Q - Bunker Buster

Terminus fires his heavy cannon after a brief delay (0.5 seconds), firing a skillshot in a line (800 range) that explodes if it hits an enemy, dealing physical damage. The primary target struck has 30/35/40/45/50% of its bonus armor ignored by the shot.

Costs 5 Ammo. 10/9/8/7/6 second cooldown.

W - Pneumatic Punisher

Terminus blasts a shockwave in target direction (600 range), dealing physical damage to all enemies struck and briefly knocking them back in the same direction as the shockwave. Enemies within 100 range of Terminus are also stunned for 0.5 seconds.

Costs 10 Ammo. 20/18/16/14/12 second cooldown.

E - Ion Orb/Ion Bolt

First Cast - Ion Orb: Terminus launches an Ion Orb in target direction, which deals physical damage to enemies it passes through. The Ion Orb is consumed upon hitting an enemy Champion. After using Ion Orb, Terminus can activate Ion Bolt within the next three seconds.

Second Cast - Ion Bolt: Terminus fires an Ion Bolt in target direction, damaging the first enemy it hits. If Ion Bolt hits an Ion Orb, the Ion Orb explodes, dealing powerful physical damage to enemies in a large area around it.

Costs 5 Ammo on both casts. 10 second cooldown (starts after Ion Bolt is used or times out).

R - Rearmament

Passive: Terminus' maximum ammo capacity increases by 0/10/20/30.

Active: Terminus enters his Reload State and gains +20/30/40/50 bonus movement speed for 2 seconds. During this time, he cannot attack or use his abilities, but can perform other actions. Upon finishing Reload State, Terminus' Ammo is restored to maximum. This Reload State lasts 5/4/3/2 seconds (depending on level).

10 second cooldown. No cost. Available at level 1 without requiring a skill point.

Background (in progress; jot notes available)

  • Terminus is a war robot/golem built in Zaun by Professor Stanwick, who feared retribution from Viktor for stealing credit for making Blitzcrank.
  • Terminus was designed for combat, and was made to supposedly be superior to Blitzcrank. Unfortunately, there was a glitch in "programming" him, which caused him to turn against his masters, believing himself superior to all.

I'll be updating this as I go, but I could use some critiques on the current design.

Hmm....Stanwick sure knew what he was doing. Speaking of Terminus's relation to Viktor, I have an idea!

Remember Viktor's passive, the Hexcore? He would spawn at the start of the game with a customizable Hex Core that he could modify to best his enemies? Well, I was thinking that maybe a similar item be applied to Terminus! When Terminus acesses the store, he would have access to maybe a variety of weapons. Let me give some examples:

Poison Rounds:

When Terminus deals damage on a basic attack towards an enemy, he deals a percentage of poison damage that lasts for a few seconds.

Double-Barreled Fury:

Terminus deals extra physical damage on his attacks. However, he consumes 2 Ammo each time he uses a Basic Attack with this weapon.

Mr. Cuddles:

When Terminus fires a basic attack towards the enemy, the round explodes, dealing extra physical damage around a certain radius. Enemies caught by the inferno are dealt a percent amount of attack damage over time.

As for his ultimate, Rearmament, I don't think it would fit Terminus's character style. What I mean is, you really want a killing machine to be running away from the enemy? I look at Terminus, and see a bada** killing machine just wreaking havoc across the battlefield. I think Terminus is the guy that should stand his ground against the enemy. So, what I think, instead of the movement buff, he erects himself in the ground and gains a percentage bonus of armor.

Armor Percentage Bonus:

10/20/30/40% Additional Armor

I'm interested to see what the lore is for Terminus! Can't wait to read it!

Nice job, once again! Thanks for sharing your ideas with the community! :D

P.S: Not that it matters or anything, but, is this your smurf account when you post champion ideas?

its a nice idea and i like it, a pure AOE champ would certainly be something i would use my IP for, however, i feel you take Blitzcrank give him Chogath's Q and Alistar's groundpound, other than that, i like his idea

I love the idea of ammo, it gives a easy point of retaliation allowing for a lot of power in is kit without seeming OP. I'm questioning the 0 ammo until level 6 though. The cap of 30 is a good spot though, imho, so why not 10/15/20/30 ammo for levels 0/6/11/16? If you're worried about his early game being too strong with the ammo enhanced aa's you can change his passive to 25% bonus AD or something similar.

Another thing that will greatly, greatly affect this champ's feel is where you feel his basic aa range should be. I feel he should mirror about where Graves is, at 525, but that's just my thinking.

Love the concepts and skills.
It's simply unique and awesome, but obviously needs some tuneing and whatnot.
Sadly I can't tell you where.
I hope this thread grows :D

I saw someone said the move spd buff on ult didn't fit the character so I had an idea that supports that.

I think that he should be rooted and get an armor buff for a short duration but after that is up he should get a ad spike for a few seconds.

Just my thoughts

I like the use of ammunition instead of manna, energy, or cool downs. It is new and adds a different kind of thinking to the game.

Firstly,I think the armor pen on his q needs to be toned down just a bit. Mainly because of this item item 3035. At full level it give them the potential 85% armor penetration, that is without item 3071 or item 3142 .

Secondly, the spell rearmament should switch from a speed boost to a root or another kind of temporary nerf. Since he doesn't use manna he already has a " I am gonna be here for a long time kind of presence " with the potential bully out of lane mentality like this guy -> Mordekaiser and a few others already do. Besides, the speed buff can be timed to where Terminus can sprint behind someone use Pneumatic Punish-er to push them back and nuke them with Bunker Busters and basic attacks while they try to get away. When someone or something is reloading there should be a present disadvantage, heck even Arnold Schwarzenegger had a hard time moving around while reloading when he was the Terminator and he was a T-1000!

Other than that he sounds pretty awesome and seems like it could kick some real teeth in if played right.

You also could have him act like Android 16 from DBZ and not like to kill due to the fact that he likes the wildlife. Also make him sound like G.I.R. from Invader Zim and we have a very cool champ that I support!
