The wind echoed a chorus of wailing screams around her head. Blood was pumping against her skull in rhythm with each terrified heartbeat...the shadow that had been chasing her had snuck up in her exhaustion.

She crouched her body low in the brush, breathing in the deep scent of the dew drops and dampened earth. Torns scraped against her arms and neck but she kept her concentration. Her enemy was prowling like a shark honing in on his prey; every movement was calculated. She could see his plan of attack mold and form to his evolving surroundings. The likelihood of escaping was slim to none if he actually caught a glimpse of her.

Everything she worked for depended on finding her way home. For just a moment the panic rose up her throat and choked off her airway. She scolded herself for allowing her emotions to overpower her ambition. She had a purpose; a plan in execution. This man could not come between her and her destiny. She bent in position to strike. The stealth attack from behind would be quick and silent. One final breath whisked away into darkness..

As she propelled forward the moonlight caught his side profile and she froze, struck with terror. She felt her heart stop and her blood run cold as ice.. Could he be? No! Of course not. You held him against your chest as his life turned to dust... this is a mirage. An evil trick of the night. Her heart ached as if someone was wringing it dry. Tears poured out against her face in silence. For just a moment, she thought she saw him....

Although he had passed from her life, the memory of his love remained in the moonlight. The soft glow cast upon her skin reminded her of his touch and she longed for his comforting embrace. Every moment of the night she spent searching for him. Knowing she would never find him, she still begged God to let her touch the moon just so she could see his face one final time..

This man was not her precious Abhichandra. This man was the enemy. This man had been hunting her for days. She would be his wealthy prize to the League demanding her capture. She wouldn't play though, she wouldn't allow them to mold her into the monster her lover became. Some things are done out of duty...others, desperation.
