A person training constantly for a Soul Calibur tournament does not undergo the same mental duress as say, an LCS player in a game of League of Legends.

E-sports, as in competitive gaming involving teams, takes as much strategy, dedication, thinking, tactics, and practical application as people playing with balls. Fovere1 votesI think its misleading to call it a sport, and a little silly to treat it as such. but they will take any edge they can get to gain more mainstream acceptance and commercial appeal.
I also found it much more enjoyable to watch before the excessive commentary and replays.

Shadowatom1 votesAthletes and Entertainers are paid not only by teams and tv producers, but also by advertising teams and possibly even film crews. Not to mention celebrities also can put their name on a T-shirt and sell it as a product on their own. No firefighter is treated so well, because people don't know the name of every firefighter on the fire squad in their town and such. It is a shame, but it makes sense as to why celebrities are paid more than people who provide aid to others.
ZT Xperimentor1 votesIt makes sense, but is backwards in terms of importance; doctors get paid greatly since they can save lives, but other occupations of similar nature are more or less ignored. I find it ironic that with the society becoming increasingly materialistic, firefighters are shunned when they're one of the few life saving jobs that also protect possessions.
Shadowatom1 votesDoctors require a much greater level of education which is why they need to be paid more, because there aren't as many abundant. Not to say firefighters and police officers are a dime a dozen, but they don't need a PhD to do those jobs as far as I know.
Either way, yes, it's sad, but I don't think they mind too much. They're taking pride in their work because they know they saved a life/lives, and while they should get some recognition, I don't think they're not in it for the glory (and anyone who was has probably given up on that idea by now).
ZT Xperimentor1 votesI'm unsure, but I think police officers require more mental training than firefighters, like how to disarm/breakdown guns on the fly; but I know firefighters require to be significantly physically fit, which is sadly a rarity these days without drugs.
I agree that kind of feeling is like none other on the planet, but I'd say they should still get some kind of respect at least; putting their lives on the line daily. I know sports fanatics are going to claim it's dangerous to play sports, which I won't dispute as I've seen a couple break their legs/arms; but they shouldn't be making 7+ figure paychecks for the equivalent of carrying a dead animal across the parking lot. Same should go for politicians but for entirely different reasons that'd fill a book.
