Piccaboo
Piccaboo
Piccaboo earned his support chops on Xenics Storm in Champions Winter 2013-14, immediately making a name for himself with his unusual focus on early-game roaming. With an extremely low-economy playstyle (the likes of which had not been seen since 2012), the young support would show up in the enemy mid lane as early as Level 2 for a gank with Thresh or Annie.
Xenics Storm eventually fizzled out, and Piccaboo spent the next year subbing for Samsung Blue and SKTelecom T1. A wrist injury put an end to his time on Korea’s premier team, and after a lengthy recovery, Piccaboo joined KT Rolster as the starting support. When he finally stepped back onto the stage, it soon became clear that the Piccaboo of 2015 was worlds apart from the spunky teenager who made an impression a year ago.
On Xenics, Piccaboo would leave AD carry Arrow to fend for himself while he attempted a risky gank elsewhere. If he succeeded, Xenics would find themselves with a lead they didn’t particularly plan for. If he failed, Arrow would be in a hole for the next 10 minutes. Either way, his early rotations, while flashy, were ultimately unsound from a strategic perspective.
But now, Piccaboo’s roaming has direction and purpose. In his vastly improved vision game, Piccaboo has proven that he has matured as a player in KT Rolster’s 2nd place finish in Champions Summer 2015. No longer is he the player who strolls into mid lane hoping for a lucky first blood -- now, the first bloods are a result of bold, vision-driven jungle invades.
Piccaboo’s roaming has direction and purpose.
Still, despite his marked improvement from his time on Xenics Storm, Piccaboo is not yet a complete player. He shows signs of the impulsive, brash support that ran himself into a wrist injury. This should not be a cause of concern for KT Rolster, though. Rather, it should be a sign of hope -- if Piccaboo continues on his current trajectory, KT will very soon become a true contender for the World Championship title.
