New Super Week Format

As a pretty avid follower of the competitive scene (I try to watch both NA and EUW), I find Super Weeks flat out exhausting, particularly Day 2 of the current Super week format, which is an almost grueling 6-game day which is what you get when you have 16 games over only 3 days. And not only that, if you're not aware that there's a super week going, you end up missing the first 2 days of the week since it starts on Tuesday instead of Thursday.

There's a better way to do this.

If the current scheme holds with NA playing on Saturday/Sunday and EUW playing Thursday/Friday, here is what I propose:

  • Super Weeks are split between NA and EUW instead of both being played the same week.
  • Each split will last 14 weeks long with 3 bye weeks, before or after the Super Week (explained later).
  • Super Weeks are played Thursday to Sunday for both regions with 4 games each day over the 4 day period (still 16 games).
  • The region who plays first will have a bye week the following Super Week and will play games on Thursday and Friday.
  • The region playing second has a bye week the week before Super Week and will play games on Saturday and Sunday.
  • The two-week Super Week rotation will start on Weeks 3, 8, and 13.

Patches and Champion Releases/Reworks

There are a few things which must be addressed due to this format. If a patch hits during a super week, there will be a two week delay before it is applied competitively. If a champion is released or reworked during or the week before a super week, the champion will be disabled until after the week ends. Al lin all, these rules would exist only to maintain a standardized experience between all regions.

Summary

Personally, I think this benefits everyone across the board. Players will be less prone to feeling exhausted during super weeks and fans can stick with the same schedule week in and week out.

If Riot decides to expand the LCS into 10 teams, they said there wouldn't be any super weeks then. This sounds like a good idea until then.
