With a new season comes new stars and new stories. Here is one of the players you should look out for in 2015!
Team: ROCCAT
Region: Europe
Position: Top
Remember Overpow’s Kayle play way back when ROCCAT first entered the LCS in 2014? He took a champion that no one was playing and made her a priority pick for much of the ensuing split. He immediately became known as an innovator, a player that's willing to try new things -- and play them well enough to bring them to the forefront of the meta.
Now, however, he’s ready to try something even more drastic: he’s changing up his role to top laner.
Think about the current top lane meta. Sure, the hypertanks that were so popular a season ago are still around, but increasingly popular are casters and assassins. For a mid laner heading up north, some of those champions will feel right at home. As he says:
"Transitioning from mid to top is not that hard for me. I have a wide champion pool and I do not have problems adapting to new champions anyways. Currently I play top lane mainly in our scrims and preparations for the new split, but only champions that I feel would be good to start the split with! Fingers crossed but I think my transition should be fine."
There are things he can improve upon, however, “such as wave control and not becoming the next victim of the enemy jungler.” Assuming he can solve whatever problems he has, Overpow seems confident in his new position.
“We are hoping for a lot more consistent game play - we had a roller-coaster season last year, it was way too much of ups and downs - so we want to stabilize and show people that we can be on top of the table not only for a week or two.”
Overpow hopes to be the rock for his team moving forward, much as he was in the mid lane. A consistent player, he’s held down the role of shotcaller for the squad. Despite the mid lane being a more traditional shotcalling role, he says that the leadership position may actually be easier from the top lane. “Shotcalling is easier from top since it is lot more 'peaceful' lane so i can control the battlefield more effectively. And it just gives me more options to control the map with [Teleport],” he told us.
If successful in the swap, ROCCAT has the potential to be one of the best squads in Europe. “Our goal for next season is to be one of the contenders for/at worlds, so to make that happen I have to be one of the best top laners in EU in both the macro and the micro levels.”
