Why is Veigar not a competitive champion?

What are the reasons why Veigar is picked so rarely in games? With the nerfs to assassins and general season 4 mechanics i would have expected him to rise in popularity. I've had a good experience with him but I don't know why he isn't considered a competitive champion.

I think it is just a matter of personal preference, and in this particular case, perhaps it is because most people play what the "pros" and/or "diamonds" seem to play the most. Or, sometimes, that is how it seems. Veigar I would think is quite viable in any ranked match as an AP carry. That health percentage damage thing can take out super boss tanks based around lots of health like DrMundo or Singed if you catch them with it.

His mobility is sub par compared to a lot of mid laners so his roaming ability is poor. Team fighting wise it is very easy to quickly assassinate him with his lack of mobility. Overall hes alright but doesn't have roaming potential which alot of mid laners look to have.

He gets insta wrecked in lanes like riven or lee

No mobility, and cooldowns are too long. It's like having a syndra without the slow and slightly less range

i feel Veigar isn't played competitively mainly for the fact that many people struggle with him. i think that his lack of mobility and CD's make him difficult for people to feel comfortable with in a ranked setting unlike someone like Brand or Ahri.

The problems with Veigar is that he maybe one heck of a tough champion and can easily snowball/nuke the mid lane he is going against, but his late game and team fight potential is lacking due to long cool downs and the fact most of his abilities can only hit one target easily.

Though Veigar can scale indefinitely similar to Nasus, he can only do that damage to one person unless the entire enemy team is stunned in a tight space. That means that if he burns all his abilities, hes got to wait at least 10 seconds before he can cast again and if he did not kill the champion he targeted mixed with the fact its a team fight, hes now useless for the duration of the fight.

Look at Leblanc she is similar to Veigar because shes a single champion Nuker who also contains a root (albeit not as good as Veigar), she can jump in, nuke the champion she chooses and get out without taking a single scratch and jukes away when taking damage because of per passive when used right. When a champion is a single target nuker with long cool downs, if they cant escape easily then they just end up dieing.

Now this does not make Veigar bad, he is great and viable, but you realize his weakness for teamfights once you burn your abilities and try to hop around slowly. Ive seen Veigar totally destroy enemy teams, but ive also noticed that in an even matchup (Meaning noone is more fed than the other) he just seems to fire one set of abilities and then die.

Eh I find that 2.5 sec stun pretty awesome, and if u trap people in it, they either stay in that puny space or get stunned. Sounds good in an aoe team comp.
