Odds are if you're a carry facing off against Konstantinos "Forg1ven" Tzortziou of the Copenhagen Wolves, you have less CS than him. In fact, since the beginning of February, only one player managed to top Forg1ven: Rekkles in Week 6.
But while Rekkles was busy farming (beating Forg1ven by only 3 CS), the Wolves were busy winning the game—they had a 26.0 team KDA in that game against Fnatic, and Forg1ven ended with a 5/0/5 stat line.
What’s even more impressive is Forg1ven’s other game that week. On Day 1 against Millenium, he scored 658 CS, an LCS record. Forg1ven is, without a doubt, one of the most talented players that EU has seen.
But, like everyone, he started at the very bottom. Initially a DotA and CounterStrike player, Forg1ven turned to League when the Greek CS competitive scene died. He jokes about how he ended up as a carry, “I disliked wards, and my support usually bought many.”
The role came naturally to Forg1ven, “I was very used to last hitting and denying creeps… and I liked the aspect of it.” His climb up the ranked ladder, topped out at 2200 Elo, and he quickly jumped into the competitive scene. It didn’t take long for him to find a spot on team rosters, and he finally settled into the Copenhagen Wolves as they set sights on the 2014 LCS.
Since then, he’s been almost unbeatable. He has consistently topped his opponents in CS, and is a major strength for the Wolves to draw on. So how does he do it?
“I don’t have any secret methods… I just farm whatever is farmable without me dying or without costing map presence for my team. My logic back in the days was farm, farm, farm, then teamfight or skirmish, then farm, farm, farm. But if things change, so do I.”
While it might sound selfish, Forg1ven actually acknowledges that his main priority is to the team. His champion picks for instance, have mostly been Caitlyn or Lucian. These picks have all been team decisions.
For Forg1ven and the Wolves, this teamwork is of utmost importance. And there’s no better teamwork than between Forg1ven and his support, Unlimited. “I think we are the only bot lane in Europe that doesn’t speak during the games about what to do,” he says. “What I try to do all the time with every single support I have played with, including a guy like Unlimited who is very smart, is to think the same and play the same.”
This bond between the two has proven to be key in their CS dominance. As the pair spends more time together, they grow in synergy. “Our chemistry has developed since we started playing together in CW,” Forg1ven adds, ”I think it will continue as long as we both are open-minded and have motivation for the game.”
Forg1ven and the Wolves are facing judgment time. In the middle of the pack with a 10-11 record, their final placement could very well be decided this week. “Every scenario is open,” Forg1ven says about where the Wolves will end up.
When asked about advice for other carries, Forg1ven remains stoic: “For me, there is no particular advice to give to people that play AD. I don’t think there are significant, particular details that can make someone get superbly good. The only thing I can say is: develop your anticipation.”
To his fans, however, he is happy. “A big thank you to the fans that spend the time or staying up late to see us playing,” he adds.
