Just how good does TL beating IG make NA? Is this merely a fluke or are we on par with the other three leading regions?

NA doing well internationally is a nice surprise

Then again we usually send in TSM to go and die at MSI lol

Fluke? Absolutely not. I think this shows that when Liquid plays their game and is on, they absolutely can compete with anyone much the same as G2. Once you're in best of 5s, you don't fluke your way into winning. However, both have shown that when they're not playing well, losses result.
On par with China and Korea. Not yet. A lot of what happens in tournaments is match ups. When Doublelift was informed it was going to be IG (who picked playing LQ) he said he was glad because he thought they matched up better with IG than with SKT. Korea and China have a consistent record of their teams making it out of groups at worlds. We don't have that yet.

Asian teams dominated the pro scenes for just about the entire lifespan of League so far --------------- meh.

Western teams won a game or 2 against Asian teams --------------- "We on par".

Realistically, the gap between the four major regions has been fairly small for a few years now.

But we all know that everyone's going to call this a fluke.

I think Korea is a bottom of the barrel region now. Id say NA, EU, and China are the top 3... in that order. We give Korea a pass for continually being trash for a year and a half because it's Korea. China has always been full of a bunch of chokers. Never able to perform when it matters the most. If Fnatic didn't fluke their way into the finals last year, IG would have choked there too.

sees post about na team with upvotes

guess tl won.

but seriously, i have no idea wtf happened. really impressive. while nothing besides worlds really means anything, it is still a great sign. really surprised. but then again, another eu mid in na so no wonder na is doing well Kappa

I think China and Korea are still at the top of the pile, but the gap in skill has closed. The average play in those regions is still better than the average play in EU or NA. I still think the second and third Korean team at Worlds is going to have a much better chance at success than their NA or EU counterparts. I mean, does anyone really think OG or C9 are to outperform Kingzone or Griffin?

That being said, this clearly shows that the top teams in the west have the ability to compete with the rest of the world, even if they aren't quite to the same level.
