***IDEA***: 25 Years Of Age And Up 'Veteran' LCS Circuit
So I realize that at first this sounds like a bit of a crazy idea, but hear me out; This is something I think would be great for the spirit of the game and the competitors that play it:
A lot of people don't understand why players stop competing in LCS and it is not because they're simply tired of playing. We can all still pick up a mouse and a keyboard well into our 30's and 40's and play our MOBA or FPS of choice. So why do people seem to reach their peak and then leave the competitive scene?
The reason for this is pretty simple: People's reaction times are fastest and vision is best earlier in life, and LoL is a game centered around making quick and correct decisions consistently. If you and your opponent both know what you each need to do and when, then the only difference between you is how fast and precise you can make it happen. Your ability to react quickly and to see pixels accurately starts to decay around the age of 18 and continues slowly throughout your life, though your reaction time seems to stop decaying somewhere around 25 to 30. This means competitors don't just quit: They actually age out of the game because of younger competition coming in. This is where the Veteran LCS Circuit becomes relevant.
Because LCS is a sport in which people could continue to compete in far later in life than they do currently, it would make sense to create a league for people who have already gone through this transition. Competitors who are done playing in the regular circuit, or even players who are good but never had the option earlier in life to play in the LCS, could join the league and face off in perpetual competition, rekindling the fires of their rivalries and reliving the glory of their triumphs. This would also be a much more stable prospect for strong league talent who might consider LCS too risky to be a long-term career plan. Instead of having to rely only on their own personality and previous popularity to become streamers or the rare coaching position on newer squads, with the Veteran LCS Circuit, talented league players would be looking at a lifetime of opportunities to join teams, compete at a high level and even win championships!
I have thought about this a long time and I feel that it only makes sense. Right now, there are lots of people on the bench from seasons 1 and 2 who could come off right now and start teams. We still know and love these people and seeing them play against their old rivals would be extremely compelling to the community. Moreover, with viewership higher than it has ever been, staggering the competitions would allow for year-round programming including in the off-season months, and lots more opportunities for franchising and hosting events for venues. This would be a tremendous boon to Riot, to the LCS and to the players who have helped build this game into what it is today.
Please consider this idea. It's something I'm very passionate about and believe needs to be taken seriously.
