Competitive Ruling - McGill University

TL;DR

  • McGill University had a player not on their roster share the account of one of their rostered players in an official College Season match against Hunter College.
  • As a result, the school, the six rostered players, the ringing player, and the manager are disqualified from the 2018 College Season and suspended for the rest of the season.

CONTEXT

We received a report today sharing concerns that a McGill player Olivier “JuanCarlosFist” Nahman-Lévesque was ringing - secretly using a player not on their roster - in their official College Season match against Hunter College. This suspicion arose when McGill brought an ineligible player into the pregame lobby, then switched to an eligible player upon demand from Hunter’s captain.  Battlefy officials escalated the issue to us, and we were able to confirm that the McGill player was sharing his account with a different player, Hyeonggil “Outclass” Jang, a former McGill player, during the time of the match.

Ringing is a serious offense. It misleads opponents who have prepared for the match, it circumvents roster rules meant to create a fair playing field, and it breaks trust with fans, players, and the league itself. In professional and semi-professional League play worldwide, ringing carries a minimum suspension of five competitive months, per the Global Penalty Index (for more information about penalty indexes, check out this article on lolesports.com).
