All Stars will not be on 5.21 - it'll be on something newer, depending on the patch schedule.

Meaning All Stars will let us see how the E-sports pros make use of all the Preseason changes.

Why? I have to wonder why the Pro side of the game has been so far behind live? It felt really weird watching Worlds be 3 patches behind

Because they want to avoid as much bugs asbring by the new patches/champs/unproven mechanics as possible For example right now PD item has been disabled because of a bug...if they were playing an international copetition now on this patch, tere would be a HUGE unbalance in meta caused by this thing, or even worse they wcould have not discovered some big bug yet that would happen during the games on stage

Bugs seem to be alot more common than they were, then, since I remember when the pro scene was always only a patch behind live in the previous season

We usually patch Tournament Realms (the special servers we use for competition) a week after a patch goes live, primarily to avoid any hotfix issues (things that result in "X has been temporarily disabled" popups). We also don't change patches during the LCS Playoffs to ensure more consistency - we value adaptability to the meta as part of the regular season and the "long run" game, but don't find it appropriate for playoffs. Worlds is a special case - our tolerance for potential bugs is much lower.

tl;dr Ale non è male nailed it.
