Team Coaches Officially Part of LCS in 2015

Riot·9/17/2014, 4:38:50 PM·3 votes·47,743 views
As the best teams from across the globe gear up for the start of Worlds this week, we’re already thinking about how to assist new and returning teams as they look ahead to the 2015 season. The first vital step for any team is to have a strong supporting cast behind them, which is why we’re pleased to announce official recognition and support for LCS team coaches in the 2015 season. This year the competitive edge that a skilled coach brings to a team has been clearer than ever. For years, they’ve been a must-have for winning traditional sports organizations - and we’ve seen how Korean esports teams benefit from having a full support team, led by a coach. Coaches like Locodoco, Leviathan, and Charlie not only help to focus and motivate their teams, they bring them together as a competitive force. “Our coach helped us find a more disciplined version of ourselves, optimize our strengths, improve on our weaknesses and be the voice of reason without anyone of the players having to tell each other off for their mistakes. I cannot underline how important the latter actually is,” said Jacob Toft-Andersen, Team Owner of Alliance. “On top of that, alongside some of our analysts, our coach is also a cornerstone of our strategizing, keeps a cool head and adds perspective to our sometimes otherwise crazy ideas.” Supporting coaches ultimately benefits players and teams and promotes new levels of competitive play. Which is why as of next season, we’ll be offering additional support to all official coaches of LCS teams including assisting the teams in financially supporting these critical team members. By recognizing coaches in this way, we’re aiming to make it easier for talented folks to dedicate themselves to coaching the teams as a full-time career. Our hope is that teams themselves support coaches as a vital part of their organization – and reap the benefits that a dedicated mentor and strategist can offer their teamplay. “They have a dramatic impact on the performance of the team. Of course they should – it follows the same model as traditional sports,” said Steve Arhancet, Owner of Team Curse. “I think our coach has proven to be just as important as any one of the players,” adds Toft-Andersen. After Worlds, we’ll be publishing further details about the requirements to qualify as an official LCS coach, as well as exactly how this process will be rolled out for new and existing coaches. In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts about coaches who’ve made a real difference this season. We look forward to welcoming a wider bench of coaches in the 2015 season – and watching them inspire teams to even greater levels of competition.

rip incarnati0n....

incarnati0n deserved his ban. being toxic is one thing, but Ddosing is crossing the line to commiting a felony. even if hes a great guy with the most positive attitude, he ruined peoples experiences in league and should never be allowed back

Coaches who've made a real difference this season? Incarnati0n, that's one. Also unsure why he's permabanned unless Riot endorse punishment over rehabilitation.

Poor Incarnati0n. Riot talks about how much coaches have a positive impact on their teams, and you've done just that. RIP Incarnati0n, the best coach SK Gaming ever had.

This is great! When will coaches be allowed to talk to the team during the game? much like real sports when the coach can communicate with the team.

The impact coaches have had this year is insane, think of TSM pre locodoco to now. This is a huge step forward for competitive LOL. I cannot wait to see the level of LCS play rise with this.

Incarnati0n, probably has had a huge impact and contribution towards SK making it to Worlds. But hey, fuck him, right?

It would be really nice if riot or someone could offer some invite how to get into coaching and or climbing the coach ladder. I spend more time coaching than playing and this is a great opportunity but it seems impossible to get into coaching unless you are challenger or have the right contacts on the inside

Does this include analyst?

Most of people saying that Incarnati0n shouldn't be able to coach because of cheating (a mistake from the past) have probably cheated already at some point of their lives. Start giving people second chances. Everyone makes mistakes and it's easy to hold a grudge against someone, what's hard is forgiving someone for their errors so try to be a better human being and start trying to give people a chance to redeem themselves.

Bad news for TSM sadly, one of my favorite teams but both of the coaches are children when it comes to censorship and being professional. On the plus side, maybe coaches like C9 Charlie will get a bit more recognition.

So coaches have to follow rules of sportsman like conduct as well now? Regi and Loco can't shoot their mouths off anymore? Thanks riot!

I'm really wondering why everyone is having all this talk about Incarnation, saying he should keep being a coach or not. That's actually not in Riot's power to forbid someone (like incarnati0n) to talk to players and give them advices (like the players of SK). They will probably only not recognize him as the official SK coach, and thus give him no money. The situation for him will remain the same as it is now : coaching SK, being paid by the team, but not being official or paid by Riot. Nothing to complain about...

...especially because I think he can still find himself very happy to have an e-sport related job :this is the best definition of second chance, which is not a new first chance, but sthing different, and worst, pretty obviously. But good enough for him when you look at what he's done, and not really apologized for.

Why not have a real impact on more players' development (and on ranked 5's especially) - by creating a coaching spec slot (6th man, real time, can only see own team's vision/fog of war) for draft and ranked queues?

so all those interview with monte, scarra and loco weren't with coachs why were they shown on the LCS if they weren't recognised?? this seems a way to screw out certain people

SimonPT9/17/2014, 6:44:02 PM1 votes

This is a huge step for LoL and i think Riot should create an official market of coaches/analists in order to teams look on the rigth places.
