2016 World Championship hits North America

Join us on the ultimate U.S. road trip as the 2016 League of Legends World Championship travels across North America on September 29-October 29.

We’ll be bringing top teams from around the world directly to North America to face-off for the Summoner’s Cup. The 2016 World Championship starts with the Group Stage in San Francisco, before moving to the Quarterfinals in Chicago, and then onto the Semifinals in New York City. For the epic conclusion of Worlds 2016, we’ll return to the Staples Center in Los Angeles to crown our new World Champion.

From coast to coast, each city will mark a new milestone on the teams’ competitive journey toward the final battle for the Summoner’s Cup. We’ll be revisiting iconic stadiums along the way, including Madison Square Garden and Staples Center, and bringing live League of Legends action to fans in new destinations.

Group Stage: September 29-October 2 + October 6-9 at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco, CA
Quarterfinals: October 13-16 at The Chicago Theatre in Chicago, IL
Semifinals: October 21-22 at Madison Square Garden in New York, NY
Finals: October 29 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA

Agreed. Madison Square Gardens had Summer LCS finals and Staples Center already had S3 worlds. Bring the stuff up north.

They are not going to take their main venue out of worlds if they are having things done in the USA (Staples). They had a tournament in Florida before they had it in MSG but it wasn't well advertised, and they are having one in Las Vegas. They are branching out, but they sold out for MSG in an hour , a total of two for both days. A majority of the player base in the US is on the east coast surprisingly, so to move it from MSG would be extremely bad for them business wise.

They need a venue large enough to hold the amount of people in large populated areas that are indoors. Staples and MSG are two of the largest =/

Bright side- They still have various tournaments before world in which they may bring it somewhere else for you to possibly see the team you want.

Second option- Get a job save up some money and go there. You have a year to do it, even a cashier can save up enough to do that in that time frame to go to the nearest of the 4 events for worlds. This part isn't directed at you, this is for anyone who is Serious about going.

I really want some insight as to why Canada is left out. Im so upset it isnt even funny... They are holding Worlds at two places that have events before while Canada has not seen one game ever, why are we calling this Worlds Hits North America.... Its called USA. If you want to argue that US is in NA then go ahead but then you can just call it World Championships 2016 Earth USA is on the Earth right??? Anyway this is the saddest thing I have heard in months.

His point was that it's in NA, but not in any country other than the US. Comparatively, let's say for the MSI in China, it could just be said that MSI is coming to Asia, when it's actually going to just be in China. It's somewhat unclear and doesn't help people who got their hopes up for a continent-wide event.

They also call it North American LCS but they only play in California. The point is Worlds is coming to this region. Don't see Mexico QQing on the boards. Fact of the matter is San Fran, Chicago, New York, and LA are all much much bigger markets and more attractive cities for worldwide tourism. They label NA because it's the NA region not because they want to mess around with continent wide visa issues.

I think Toronto or even Vancouver is large, and attractive enough for you, Jesus if you argue that it can only be in the USA hell Toronto is almost in the USA with it being in the same league as other sports, we just want some love, and that if its never going to come to Canada, it should not be North America it should be called USA(featuring Canadians on our servers)

Toronto is the 3rd largest city in North America population wise. It makes absolutely no sense to not have any events here. Honestly though, they probably just got a good deal on the Staples center as well as some decent tax breaks from California.

Then players from everywhere around the world need to get visas approved for Canada, which opens up a whole new slew of issues, including players not being able to participate.

Requiring a player to get 2 visas one for CA and one for US isnt an issue. They had to get multiple visas last year for Worlds in EU.... There is literally no excuse for not having an event in Canada.

Also previously when world was in Korea, group was in other asian countries. There is no reason why visa for only 2 countries should matter, and cities like Vancouver, Toronto or Montreal are big enough for at least some of group stage.

Except that unlike the States, Canada does not require visas from people from the vast majority of countries. It's far easier to enter Canada than it is to enter the States. Combined with the fact that Worlds has been held in multiple countries before, your point is a non-point.

Riot I know everyone is roasting you, and I know you can't change anything, but I would like to see more cities that don't get a chance to watch League live. Like I mean LA is cool and all but they can go watch LCS every weekend, up here in Seattle or many other cities we don't get the chance. item 3070

I don't get why California gets essentially 3 events. Not once has Riot held an event where a Texas, Nevada, New Mexico, Colorado, Oklahoma, you get the point state can attend with ease. The tournament is already held in a crappy time frame for people who have to work or are in school. Texas has the second highest population in the U.S., not to mention Canada (this may shock some) is a part of North America. I think that the venues for this event just simply are not well thought out as practically half of all of North America, Canada and U.S., have to buy airline tickets, book a hotel, and take off work or school for at least 2 days to attend on the play days. Bad planning in my opinion and it segregates most of North America from attending any event since Riot insists on California and New as being the only go to places to hold their event. I do realize MSI was, and will be, held in Florida, and Nevada this year, but MSI is not Worlds and few people would likely go to see it if their favorite team did not get first place in their respective region. Just my thoughts.

NYC is pretty damn close relatively bro. The guy above in Texas will have a much longer trip than 5 measly hours. And it aint no random weekend you've just been given 8 months advanced notice... Couldn't be much easier to plan a weekend trip. If you aren't willing to do a 5 hour trip you aren't fan enough to attend anyways.

He was probably referring to the South. I feel left out, too. Houston is a top 4 city in the U.S. in terms of population and instead of branching out to a bigger portion of fans they picked two venues in California. Rip.
