The many hats of LCS fans

There are many reasons to wear a hat. To block the sun. To cap off your perfectly styled outfit. To catch the eye of Ham "Lustboy" Jang-Sik as he walks onto the LCS stage long enough for you to scream your phone number and beg him to call you.
This article is mostly about the last reason. The incredible fans in NA and EU really upped their headgear game at this Split's Playoff matches and the Mid-Season Invitational! There were just too many amazing (and sometimes mildly confusing) hats in the stands to not share. So here are some of our favorite fan toppers.
Creepy, wicked, and obnoxious to be around -- these guys captured Shaco's vibe perfectly! These dedicated roleplayers constantly danced in the stands and waved their daggers and signs in front of people's faces, just like the Demon Jester would.
Thankfully, no one agreed to see their magic trick (that we know of…).
Let's get serious for a moment. Science has proven two indisputable facts about these hats: (1) 100% of LCS-attending luchadores are Cloud9 fans, and (2) they are absolutely incredible and I love them.
Why is one of the fans wearing a soccer jersey? Why is another wearing a purple cape? Why did they let their most boring friend tag along and NOT wear a hat? It's best not to ask too many questions about this one. Just sit back and revel in the brilliance of their wonderful Mexican theme.
Confession time: Creepy Horse Head Person and I have a weird relationship. I understand his or her goal -- he or she is supporting the hilariously eccentric Unicorns of Love -- but I just don't get it. It has to be absolute torture wearing that horribly stuffy mask for hours at a time.
Less-dedicated fans like me can opt for the more bearable whimsical, pink unicorn horns. But I still have to give credit to Creepy Horse Head Person. Thank you for doing what I never could.
Eat your heart out, yordle haters. Sure, Teemo here wasn't at the LCS studio, (we found her at the Mid-Season Invitational) but how could we exclude her when she gave the photographer such a tremendous leap?
Teemo is consistently one of the most popular inspirations for fan hats -- and, in this case, an incredible full-body costume. Have no fear, MSI fans, Super Teemo is reporting for duty!
Okay, this one looks less like it was her choice, and more like a choice inflicted upon her by neighbors in the crowd that lacked any concept of personal space.
Still, the Teemo shrooms add a fun touch and none of them exploded for obnoxiously high damage that made her scream profanities as she desperately tried to Recall in a bush and instead ran into another shroom and then died a horrible, humiliating death that her friends all laughed about in… Oh, sorry, I think I had a mini-flashback there. My bad.
So, uh, great hat! Also, your Lulu costume is incredible. <3 Yordles.
The best hats are also popsicles or, in this case, pacifiers. When your team hits a rough spot and they're attempting a desperate Baron kill, there's nothing more soothing than a suck on Rammus' claws.
Bonus: When this guy's team makes an epic comeback and he leaps up and screams, his spit will fling around his face very dramatically off of those soggy Rammus arms.
It's safe to assume that this man has been commandeered by his hand-knit helmet. The Undead Juggernaut suffers no cowards and no cheering for the rival team. And no cell phone ringing during the matches. God help you if you spill soda on him.
If this man sacrificed his own free will to don this incredible cap and cheer at the NA LCS Semifinals, the least we can do is toss him on this list.
Volibear is not an easy champion to dress up as, and this beartacular cosplay is absolutely incredible! But we should note that he only slightly beat out his fiercest rivals, the barely-there bear head and disapproving wolf.
These were just some of our favorites that we spotted during the LCS Playoffs and MSI, but there were many more awesome fan hats and costumes worn this split! You can check out the Lolesports Flickr account to look at all the official photos taken at LCS events, and pick your own favorites!
Josh Augustine's favorite champion is Caitlyn, he's never enjoyed a Darius, and he will always go for the kill, even when he knows he shouldn't. He currently works as a game designer on EverQuest Next at Daybreak Games. He’d love to talk with you on Twitter.
