Minor Tournaments (IEM, MSI, LAN style)
Hey guys,
I have been an avid league player for a long time and follow the behind the scenes from both Riots side as well as the teams. I personally have really like the setup that Riot has with the season setup but understand the struggle for teams to make money without smaller sponsored tournaments throughout the season.
Recently TSM owner Regi talked about the struggles with the current setup and I was curious if anyone else missed having the smaller tournaments like the Intel Extreme Masters or MSI?
I think that having tournaments like these gives the players and teams ways to make extra income as well as give fans something on a smaller more short term scale something to be excited about. The tournaments don't have to be anything super insane but it would give everyone a benefit sponsors would have another way to get more publicity, teams and players have another source of income, and Riot would gain another way to promote their game outside of their season which is 100% Riot controlled.
Smaller or newer teams would benefit the most from this. Riots season puts pressure on new teams who do not have the same income as existing more popular and stronger teams but with smaller tournaments even new teams would be able to give a strong reason to new sponsors to invest as well as give their players and staff the ability to earn another source of income to offset costs.
I don't know if there is something that I am completely missing but based on Reginalds statement as well as the issues of several players not getting paid last season and teams crumbling, it just seems that smaller tournaments promoted by sponsors would be something that would benefit everyone.
BASICALLY I want to see IEM, MSI and a couple more sponsor tournaments put into the mix and am curious as to what the community thinks.
Let me know!!!
