Riot··2 votes·73,777 views

It’s been an incredible month of games leading up to the Finals at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. Thanks for following us on the road across North America and supporting the best teams in the World on their journey to lift the Summoner’s Cup!

On the eve of Finals, here’s an update on the total prize pool that teams will take home, including all proceeds from fan purchases of Championship Zed and Championship ward skins.

Over the last few weeks, our total prize pool has been raised to $5.07MM - remember that you can still support the prize pool through November 6th, and we’ll announce the final total just after!

I think the contribution of the sales from the skins to the prize pool are from global sales of the skins. At least that would make sense to me.

They earned it.

It means the other regions need to git gud

very nice, now we're only 15M away from catching up to dota, we can do it guys, don't give up!

Ewreckshin4 votes

Just keep in mind this is off 1 skin and 1 ward. Dota's prize pools are off all sales from their game total. I'm sure LoL could catch them if they did the same.

which part is false? and could you please correct it. I honestly do know know and want to know. But just saying false on all the posts doesnt help me.

Not all the items, only items relating to the Compendium are included towards the prize pool of the International Championship. Just like how league only has certain items that if bought, will contribute to the Worlds prizepool

Also, dota prize pool had 100 days to stack up, this had a few weeks....

Meanwhile the DOTA 2 prize pool is a little over $20 million without having to rely on players...

Poark Bally12 votes

You're kidding right?

PYROJKL4 votes

He is, another thing I forgot to point out is, Riot would have made 12 million on just this championship skin and ward. If they added the total earnings to the winnings, then the prize pools would be similar but no business is just going to write an extra 9 million dollar check for "advertising" as most people would look at it. Their investors would be firing quit a few people at Riot if that happened.

Xcyathorpe4 votes

That was my math on it too. 12 million in sales of two items in a 5 week period. I am definitely in the wrong business.

Assass1n0p5 votes

2 virtual items dont forget. Pretty amazing to think that they made 12 million is sales from some strings of code that make up a virtual item

Xcyathorpe1 votes

Don't forget the pixels of art required as well.....

I used to model and texture Neverwinter Nights placeables, so the art side is more important to me than the code behind the scenes.

Raldrid1 votes

They look at the amount of RP it takes to buy lets say a skin. They then convert that into like the pricing, do you think stores get LOL cards for free. No, look at the pricing of rp to like $25 and its unerstandable. 12 Million though, not as understandable.

yep...learn to sucker idiots and you'll be rich.

Maybe I misread the part where it said contributed prize pool but it sure looks like Valve only puts out 1.6mil while league does 2 mil. http://dota2.prizetrac.kr/international2016

ChrisCrossed2 votes

Valve has always started the pool at 1.6 million. Been like that since the first year.

Emlnence10 votes

1.6 million prize pool, cs 1.6 best game, hl3 confirmed.

lapiopoop1 votes

Unless we're talking about the Majors that Valve puts up. They put in 3 million each major with their 4th major this December, but are not crowdfunded

Dota2 prize pool right now is at $20.7 million. However, it is very reliant on player purchases. While it is clearly a lot more than LoL, Riot only included just champ zed and ward purchases. If they included ALL sales I'm sure it woukd shoot through the roof just because of the sheer size of community league has over dota.

DarkEcho61 votes

I didn't buy the skin because I do not own zed, and it was not interesting enough. If chests contributed, I would have contributed. I bought 18 champion chests. But Rito only uses 2 things for prize pool.

Prince Roxas8 votes

dota 2 does use a percentage of income from players to their prize pool they just do that all year and for everything not one skin. so considering 1 skin and 1 wardskin got riot 5 mil. well lol just saying.

Any chance RIOT would reimburse me paying for internet services just to play Leauge? It isn't cheap living in the middle of nowhere and having to pay more just so you don't have 400+ ping. #thestruggle #feelsbadman

If I didn't have a job I wouldn't want to be reimbursed? It's no big deal lol. I just stop playing for awhile or painfully play ARAM.

Has anyone figured out how much RP and $ people spent to get that total?

ntbcool1 votes

total prize pool - 2mil times 4 and there is your answer

Uh, how did you get that number? The original prize pool was $2,000,000? And it is now $5,070,000.

That means 3,070,000 was added. Which means the total in sales was $12,280,000 from sales. That's just from Championship Zed and the Championship Ward skin. However, they sell for RP which means it isn't directly relatable to $ amounts. Just wondering how much that would be in RP spent and such.

PrayForParisPls1 votes

More prize money won't change the fact that Worlds are not as hyped as in 2014's season. SSW was the shit. Now it's just drama and trying to create hype really is getting redundant .

Kitty Stark4 votes

I was pretty hype and I'm fairly sure I had moderate heart palpitations between the ROX/SKT semifinal and the actual final. It was very back and forth and to say it was all just staged for drama must make you a pretty over-serious person. Just enjoy the action, stop trying to say they fake it for attention or anything. These teams have worked impossibly hard to get this far and deserve every penny of prize money.

Señor Styles1 votes

Honestly this worlds was 20x better than S4, in my opinion. Only thing that sucked was the song.

Sonic10131 votes

waaaat. I mean, this Worlds wasn't terrible but its all agreed that S4 was a legend.

:/ be nice if riot gave some of that back to players every once in a while not even a thank you to those that bought the skins
