To answer the title "Can G2 redeem themselves at MSI 2017" - YES G2 aren't a EU TSM where they have to get ahead early and win games within 31 mins anymore like in 2016. G2 are a much slower and smarter team than before. Some of Europe's best years were from slower teams that won the map methodically and at a slow pace while still having talent in all lanes.

The problem with G2 though is that 2016 was probably the worst year for any EU team when it came to international performances. 2-8 at MSI, 1-5 at worlds, and looking incapable of doing much of anything against even moderate-strength teams gave them a bit of a polarizing reputation to the point in which people still think EU is "Dearthy" right now. Even if they were to win this MSI (which I don't think they will, and would expect them to lose 3-1 to WE), they'd also need to escape the group stages at worlds just to even have a chance of scrubbing the stink of 2016 off them.

2016 was a horrible yeah and I don't care what people say about H2K and their Worlds performance; while it was good it wasn't a reputation of EU for that yeah.
With G2 are they a 10/10 strong team - No, but they are much better team than what they were in the past. 2016 MSI was born to fail, Emperor and Hybrid were pretty much the EU Wildturtle and Lustboy to some degree and the Worlds was really no excuses whats so ever. Zven getting like 4 kills in 6 games is just........... IF G2 can clean up a few things like, Expect being horrible with his TP plays, he never seems to be with the team, they're constantly doing this Team Dignitas Zionspartan split push and Perkz needs to not die; he's still getting CS and kills but most of that is due to the lengthy games from G2 at MSI/regular split.

WE VS G2 - While WE are a VERY strong team and I would say about 4 times stronger than RNG at Worlds( Power levels XD) they have that glowing weakness to just die if behind similar to SSG during their run to Worlds in the LCK tournament( forgot the name of it, the same one that C9 had to win back in 2015).
Both teams are great at teamfighting and while G2's strength is to stall out games, they need to be the aggressors because that's the same way WE beat SKT by being aggressive in which I do think G2 will do with their split pushing the sideways and overall teamfight team comps.

The only possible way in which they redeem themselves is if they somehow manage to get more than one playstyle. I dunno if a week is long enough to learn an entire new playstyle....

Mind you, given how HORRENDOUS the EU region has looked all split long domestically... the fact that they didn't go 0-10 is enough for me to say they performed above my expectations. Last year EU looked like a relatively solid region domestically, but failed to perform internationally. This year they looked atrocious domestically, but at least they made it out of the groups so that's good for them.
