Don't Stand There: 7 Deadly Spots on Summoner's Rift

Summoner's Rift is a dangerous place where bullets, knives, and oddly explosive mushrooms lurk inside every bush. All champions eventually suffer a gruesome fate, but some hangout spots are more prone to spontaneous death and destruction than others. We analyzed all 734 deaths that happened in the first two group stages of Worlds last week to pinpoint the locations where the most corpses piled up. If you avoid these spots at all times, you'll pretty much never die. Godspeed.

Bait Bucket: Baron's Pit (53 Deaths)

Everyone's favorite harbinger of doom lives up to his reputation on the death maps. Baron's buff can secure a lead, give a failing team comeback hope, or allow [REDACTED] to throw away their lead and die embarrassing deaths together. Almost half of the corpses dropped in the TPA/SHR match on day one (11 of 25) ended up floating around Baron's Pit. They were bloated and bloody and, like, totally gross.

Death Funnel: Middle Inhibitor Ramp (49 Deaths)

This is LoL's version of that dark alleyway behind the shady restaurant downtown that you probably shouldn't be walking down alone. At some point in every match, one team will group up to push in mid lane. The question is whether or not you'll be there to die in a blaze of glory or not. The ramp leading to that middle inhibitor turret is a perfect choke point: limited vision and movement with a deliciously destroyable inhibitor in sight. Bring your AoEs, stuns, and bulk-ordered coffins.

Wildlands: All The Jungle Camps (109 Deaths)

If you learn anything from this article, make it this: the jungle is not a safe place. For anyone. Ever. The Lizard Elder camp is a particularly violent neighborhood to avoid (25 deaths), but the wolf den is almost as bad (23). Wraiths (22), Golems (17), and the Ancient Golem (14) all had reasonably scary homicide rates, but the grumpy ol' Wight appears to be a real softy, only racking up 8 measly deaths in his camp. So if you find yourself lost in the jungle and fearing for your life, run to the nearest Wight camp and ask for help. He won't mind.

Bullied: Mid Lane Center (36 Deaths)

Mid laners are violent folk. They filled the center of their short lane with plenty of death: 36 snuffs between their two front turrets. It's not surprising, though. Gankers threaten to jump out of every bush and your opponent usually has the power to dissolve you in seconds. Hypochondriacs should probably just avoid this lane entirely.

Quit Yer Whinin': Bot Lane Center (33 Deaths)

Junglers sometimes get grief about which lane -- mid or bot -- they should focus their attention on most. So let's look at these death numbers and settle this debate once and for all. Verdict: unlike those suffering saints in the mid lane, bot lane has nothing to complain about. Bottom dwellers suffered an absurdly significant 3 less combined deaths in their territory over the course of 25 games. You hear that, solo-queue teammates? I'm counter-ganking mid lane first and I'm not going to feel guilty about it!

Give Up Already: Nexus (54 Deaths)

As the only spot on the map to rack up more kills than Baron Pit, this thing better be darn important. Well, it is, because if the Nexus gets destroyed, you lose the game. But if you die here and your team still loses, your KDA goes down and your ammo to blame teammates in the post-game chat room is weakened. Tough choice, right? Wrong, selfish jerk! Get out there and die like a hero.

Home Wreckers: Summoning Platform (16 Deaths)

Nowhere is safe. Even your home platform is an iron maiden waiting to snap shut on your face and send your spirit to the netherworld for awhile. Thankfully, your death is usually avenged by a magical laser beam from the sky. That won't heal your wounded pride, though.

Bonus! The Safest Spot: Bot-Lane Tri Brush (8 Deaths)

There are a few spots on the map completely devoid of death, but unless you want to stand outside the bottom base wall stealthed for 45 minutes, you only have one choice: camp the bot-lane tri brush. The infamous gank brush accused of devouring face-checkers every day is surprisingly light on doom, gloom, and murder in these matches. So when you need a break from the hectic fighting on Summoner's Rift, just head down to bot lane and enjoy some peace and quiet in the tri brush! Josh Augustine's favorite champion is Shaco, he's never enjoyed a Darius, and he will always go for the kill, even when he knows he shouldn't. He currently works as a game designer on EverQuest Next at Sony Online Entertainment. He’d love to talk with you on Twitter.

Bot Lane Tri Brush surprises me. It's such a heavily contested warding area, that at least in my experience is fought over a lot. Maybe it's just an anomaly or kills just make it out of the bush are generally before they die.

I'm kinda confused by the maps because they don't necessarily represent the part of the article they are paired with. Are each of the maps a different game from the group stages?

Maps or no maps, red or blue dots.. I loved this post. A decent combination of facts, entertainment and league science (I hope that is a thing :D)

By calling out the entire jungle except wight, you pretty much called 50% of summoner's rift a death zone.... save some time and writing by rephrasing the article, "The Two places You Need to Be to Stay Alive on the Rift"
