Two Things Riot Needs To Do To Make The Game More Balanced For Esports
There are still two factors remaining in LoL that add a factor of luck into the game. The first being first blood and the second being critical hits. First blood needs to be removed entirely. I believe chess is the most balanced game of all time and should be the standard upon which all true competitive games are based around and there is no first blood in chess so it makes no sense for it to be in this game.
A while ago Riot removed the random dodge ability from the game and made it into an active ability for Jax where they completely removed the luck factor. Likewise, critical hits also need to be altered as there is simply no reason for fights to come down to who gets the lucky crit first. The way Heroes of the Storm handles crit is the proper way it should be implemented in a truly balanced environment.
For instance the mage Jaina has a passive where all of her abilities apply "chill" which slows the target and makes all of her subsequent spells do 50% critical damage for the next 4 seconds. Another example is Kharazim, a melee character that has an optional talent that makes every 3rd basic attack deal 100% critical damage. I think it would be very easy for Riot to change this and either apply it to the passives and/or abilities of certain heroes as well as adding it to items as either passives and/or actives.
There's actually a third thing that I think should be done and that is to make all gold be split evenly between all who participate in a kill. This way there is no reason whatsoever to hold back or worry about stealing a kill. I've seen MANY times in ranked play where people become toxic simply over kill steals so not only would help alleviate toxicity but it would also serve to better balance competitive play.
