LCS Pro Tips: Syndra

Looking to crush your mid lane opponent? Syndra has been on the rise in the LCS, and mastering her could be your ticket to the top of your division. Much like Orianna's ball and Zyra's seeds, Syndra's orbs create a learning curve different from many other champions. In addition to positioning yourself, you must also learn the best ways to position their placement. We asked which LCS players you thought played the most deadly Syndra, and the votes are in! Check out the top 3 pro tips, and make sure to vote for next week's LCS Pro Tips: Thresh.

1. Bjergsen- 60.5% (2,268 Votes)

LCS Syndra Stats:
  • Games Played: 4
  • Games Won: 3
  • Win Rate: 75%
  • Average KDA: 7.2
As I mentioned before, how to place Syndra's orbs is one of the hardest parts of her kit to fully understand and take advantage of. Bjergsen's tip dives into how to zone the enemy and take advantage of almost any situation as it arises. This play from TSM's match against C9 is a great example of this. Bjergsen sets up the orb ahead of time and uses Scatter the Weak as soon as Hai steps into the right position.

2. xPeke- 13.9% (521 Votes)

LCS Syndra Stats:
  • Games Played: 4
  • Games Won: 3
  • Win Rate: 75%
  • Average KDA: 2.8
xPeke didn't think he could sum up his best tip in fewer than 180 characters, so we made an exception. Technically we're breaking rules here, but I wasn't upset when he took a break from Syndra innuendos and gave us some great commentary. When we gave him a bit more room to talk, he revealed that when an enemy is already CC'd by a teammate and you don't need to use Scatter the Week to engage with the stun, "it can be useful to use Q-R on him first, then stun. All the balls from the ultimate will count for it and you will hit [and stun] probably everyone on the enemy team." This is great advice to keep in mind when transitioning from the laning phase into teamfights. When you're just fighting the enemy mid laner one on one, it's easy to get used to leading with your stun, but xPeke's tip is a great way to provide more utility overall instead of just focusing on a single target.

3. XiaoWeiXiao- 12.2% (456 Votes)

LCS Syndra Stats:
  • Games Played: 2
  • Games Won: 1
  • Win Rate: 50%
  • Average KDA: 3.57:
Aside from her pretty reliable and extremely long range stun, one of Syndra's strongest attributes is her poke in lane. The slow cast speed of her Q makes it difficult to land, so she takes a lot of practice to live up to her damage potential as a lane bully.

Community Tip

This week, we had such a high volume of awesome tips from the community through #LCSProTips, I just had to include my favorite in its own section!
Landing the stun before your Q hits the ground is a great way to improve your reaction speed in teamfights. The faster you get, the better you'll be at landing that 5 man stun we all dream about, showcased beautifully by xPeke here. Let us know what you think of the series and submit your own tips by using #LCSProTips. Vote for next week's Pro Tip to help decide which pros will weigh in on Thresh! Does anyone at RIOT ever cringe at how endlessly sleazy XPeke's comments to female "journalists" like Katana and Sjokz always are? I understand that the LoL community is incredibly immature to begin with but XPeke has almost never completed one interview without some sort of lame innuendo or blatant come-on.

Just had to comment here as a Syndra main: Number 1 problem with most Syndras is not actually aiming, its positioning, she needs to be safe as she (needs to) land several orbs before her item 3128 finisher. Also landing q is about reading your opponents intentions and predicting where to land it. Her w means she is epic at jungle steals and stopping super minions. Her e is a high risk move unless its an easy kill because of the high cooldown and set up time. Time how long (maybe get cdr) it is till 3 orbs have been summoned to unleash the full potential of her ult on squishies, with item 3128 that will almost guarantee death (considering you land 1 or 2 spheres beforehand).

I love her as a long range super assassin who is never short of damage, my fav syndra pro player is OMG Xiyang, and I wanna thank him for bringing my fav long range mage into the meta :)

my only wish is that when people say " use your E to launch your orb mid W" they also include that you throw away the W dmg/slow for free and expend a higher cooldown than if you had just done Q E in the first place

Is it just me or do pro players seem to just give plain advice whereas the personal tip of using your E as your Q is landing seems more usefull? It just seems... strange to me.
