Tired of the Sona bot meta?
Anyone else sort of frustrated by the play style of this strategy? I kind of hate watching games with it, because it feels like the opposing team has no reliable tools to really play against it. It usually loses when the team makes a lot of mistakes, and the enemy team makes none. On the flip side, for the team playing it, it feels like if you survive to 20-25 minutes, it's extremely difficult to lose, even if you make a stupid amount of mistakes. FOX vs TSM week 8 comes to mind. Fox made mistakes sure, but the fights were just so so simple for TSM. This had some funny vision shenanigans that should have made for an interesting game to watch, but I was just mad at sona the whole time and how it was so easy to turn fights with it. By the end, I felt like FOX should have won it even despite their mistakes, but it became impossible because of them having no way to kill anyone in a fight. And TSM didn't even have good execution with it at all, ended up having to backdoor to end it.
I guess to try and summarize my point- the sona strategy is as simple as the champion is to play, and games with it are appropriately uninteresting to watch, and even frustrating. Even with clear lose conditions, they don't feel interesting to watch employed and are so vague (win early). Even when my favourite teams pick it, I find myself rooting for the other team and am usually disappointed. It slows the game down, and the "strategy" is to stand around in a big group and push buttons and never die. I've seen games where the other team does like triple the damage, and it's not enough to even kill a single player in a fight and they get wiped. The shield is busted, especially after seraph and later on in the game. The heal on top of it is just a hilarious slap in the face after that.
Does anyone genuinely enjoy seeing it as a strategy? What about it makes it fun/interesting to see? Have you seen any games where an interesting counter was used against it?
Thanks
duo over such.
