Looks like a goof there, doesn't lowest seed face TSM, with highest against C9?

Angrychickén2 votes

the way it is 3 v 6 and 4 v 5. then 1 and 2 get byes to compensate.

I get that, but i mean the lowest seeded remaining team faces TSM because they got #1. the article says the highest seeded remaining team faces TSM.

Yeah it confused me as well. TSM is the 1 Seed, and the Highest Seeded team in the tournament. Referring to the numeric value makes sense mathematically, but isn't how you would describe their seeding.

Thanks so much for the feedback. We've updated the infographic to make it less confusing.

Sorry, this still isn't making sense. According to your infographic, your example (with DIG and P1 advancing) is impossible because they play each other.

The way I understood it previously, TSM plays DIG if they beat P1, but if P1 wins they play the winner of CLG/FLY and C9 has to play P1. Is that correct? The infographic makes it look like TSM plays the winner of DIG/FQ no matter the outcome of those matches.

As I noted in my updated reply, you're correct on the possible Semi matchups that you outlined. Thanks for your reply and feedback.

Suggestion: If you want to keep your wording, make the seeding numbers Cardinal number instead of Ordinal number, that way the context is kept. But still when speaking about seeding, to me at least, higher number means lower value.

Hey everyone! The #3 and #6 seeds were just two random numbers I pulled out to help illustrate dynamic seeding. I'm sorry that I made you all more confused with my implausible example (my bad!). Let me see if I can help clear everything up.

As coeurloyal pointed out below, most of the seeding is determined by the DIG vs. P1 match on Saturday:

If P1 (#3) wins then, they'll go against Cloud9 (#2) no matter what since FLY (#5) and CLG (#4) have lower placements than them from the regular season and will go against TSM.

If DIG (#6) upset P1 (#3), they will be paired with TSM (#1) and the Sunday winner (CLG or FLY) will automatically be paired with C9.

We're working on updating the infographic ASAP. Thanks again for all the feedback everyone.

Hey RevanFlame! We're saying the same thing in different ways. The above infographic is referring to high/low based on numeric value (i.e. 6 is the highest number) and you're using it based on seeding placement (i.e. 6th place in the lowest possible seed). Let me use an example to clarify the dynamic seeding process to make sure we're on the same page. ~~~~For example, if the 6th seed (DIG) and 3rd seed (P1) advances to Semifinals then, we'd get DIG (#6) vs. TSM (#1) and C9 (#2) vs. P1 (#3).~~ UPDATED: For example, if the 6th seed (DIG) and 4th seed (CLG) advance to Semifinals then, we'd get DIG (#6) vs. TSM (#1) and CLG (#4) vs. C9 (#2). ~~ I'll reword the description in the infographic for clarity to avoid any further confusion.

Big mistake with the placements, c9 and TSM are backward it should be c9 playing p1/dig and tsm playing fly/clg

Gurroruo1 votes

Or maybe Rito rigged the whole thing so that DIG would beat P1?

p0psicles1 votes

That's not how this works. It's dynamic seeding - so they could play the winner of either matchup. Depending on who wins between P1/Dig, that changes the matchups for the next round. if P1 wins they play C9. If dig wins they play TSM.

Thanks for making this great game rito!! Can't wait for the playoff!! And btw why is the NA final in Canda?? Hehe..

INYOURFACE1 votes

That'd be like asking why the Oceanic final was played in New Zealand rather than Australia (if it ever was). North America and the United States are veeeeeery different things :P Serious or not we must acknowledge at the least basic geography, no?

Drunk Murray Man1 votes

Yeah but I don't see a Mexico team or a Canadian team anytime soon so it feels very united States ish
