Back to back to back -- TSM wins again

North America is home to many League of Legends players and teams, but once again the head of the house is TSM. TSM completed a NA LCS three-peat by defeating Immortals in a tightly contested series in Boston’s championship-clad TD Garden.

Down about 10k gold in Game 4, TSM turned the corner their backs were against into a springboard. Fight after fight, TSM denied death. Super minions knocking on their turrets and their Nexus nearly exposed -- none of it mattered.

TSM’s team fighting was led by Biofrost and Svenskeren syncing their ultimates to isolate one of IMT’s carries. In a game that initially saw Olleh and Xmithie chain their abilities to snowball the IMT lead, it was -- to say the least -- unexpected to see TSM’s own support and jungle combo flip that script.

With four marksmen -- Lucian, Xayah, Corki, and Tristana -- in play, the game was all about the which playmaker could serve up the other team’s carries first. Once TSM clawed back into the game, every single moment in the game could have been the decider. A catch here. A catch there. Team fights won and lost. Spilled water. None of them seemed to be the key to a victory, though.

Not until an ace within TSM's own base. IMT tried to find a fight one last time at TSM’s inhibitor, but like the series, Doublelift slipped away from their grasp. It was one of the greatest comebacks in NA LCS Playoffs history, and it turned the already rabid Boston crowd up another notch. With the Nexus' fall, TSM secured their sixth NA LCS Championship.

[[{"fid":"24484","view_mode":"centered","fields":{"format":"centered","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/centered/public/3_34.jpg%3FpczXF9M_HZHf6qGFgQbtwqpB6muWHmh9%26itok%3DNsP5Vk-m","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-centered","height":"558","width":"992"}}]]

IMT capped off their brilliant season with a strong, if ultimately disappointing, performance. TSM is a juggernaut and had a massive advantage when it came to experience on a stage like this. But after Game 1, IMT seemed to shake off their nerves. They won Game 2 thanks to some big plays from their carries on Corki and Kog'Maw. And then they held a lead in Game 3 before being unraveled by TSM's potent team fighting ability.

The lead the accrued in Game 4 showcased their strength -- the roaming synergy of Xmithie and Olleh.

"The best thing about Olleh is his roams," said Biofrost, who praised Olleh's ability to always time his movement correctly -- especially to disrupt mid laners. Svenskeren suggested this was amplified by Xmithie and IMT's ability to ward widely and deeply early in the game.

Olleh and Xmithie then catapulted IMT to a massive lead by chaining their crowd control perfectly. IMT will rely on them to replicate that success more consistently in a month when the Worlds 2017 Group Stage begins.

TSM, too, will now set their sights on Worlds -- they return to Worlds as North America's top seed again. Doublelift suggested their run last year was hamstrung by arrogance and a wrong mental approach to the event. This year, though, he's confident that understanding their shortcomings from last year will give them a better shot.

The back and forth final was exciting for fans. It was an edge-of-your-seat kind of tension. Would TSM actually lose? For Bjergsen, though, TSM has been here before. It was, he said, "Just another day at the office."

There are no other goals for TSM but a deep run and ultimately the championship. In China, it is not just immortals who await them. There are champions. There is god. And they'll have to beat them all.

Even the writer of the article with the title included seems completely bored by this.

What a horrible Finals. Probably the biggest let down in the past few splits. Fucking Immortals. on the precipice of making history! A new banner......A new champion. But no.....TSM the perennial best worthless team continues to reign supreme. So lame. It would have been fine if IMT had at least won game 4 and sent us to an exciting finish. But no.....they throw and another 3-1 finals. Europe 3-0.....wow can't believe viewership continues to drop. League can't even make good promo videos anymore either. Its so sad. Whoever is running the pro scene of league this year has killed viewership. By not making good promos...by letting MSI arena and ceremonies be so lame compared to chinas. By not promoting an exciting arena for the fans. Not that boston is bad.....but they never have signs that say cheer for the teams. NA fans are SOOOOO quite. Look at the europeans they go crazy. Whoever is the marketing lead for the pro scene should be fired for viewership levels. SMFH.......

Love them or Hate them, it is quite an accomplishment. Let's hope they have a good showing at Worlds. Can you imagine the viewers if we got a TSM-SKT finals? Will it happen, doubtful but it sure would be one for the Twitch history books.

Who's ready for more international disappointment?!?! I know I am!!!

IncrediPhiLL9/3/2017, 11:49:33 PM5 votes

Wow... much shock... didn't see it coming. Super exciting... 3 straight? How possible? It's like they always win... so strange. 13 straight finals appearances? No way. Don't believe. That's like a football team making it to 13 straight Super Bowl... so exciting. Much skill. Very fun to see same team always win. More please. Will stop watching if TSM loses. Don't make me leave RIOT. Keep me happy. TSM fan here! Not watching worlds... TSM always lose group stage. How possible? They best team NA. How always lose in groups at worlds? Fix please! So exciting. Hope TSM wins 3 straight more splits. So exciting. Same team always win a good thing! More please.

Was lucky enough to watch all 4 games of the Finals. Great series!!! Excited to see both teams head to Worlds this year! It will be interesting to see who gets the last seed, be it C9, CLG, DIG, or even Fly haha. Hoping CLG can pull it off as they seem to be improving and OmarGod seems to be settling in more with each series they play. Worlds is always exciting and NA always hypes me up and gets me more hopeful each year; hoping the teams and TSM especially can finally live up to the hype and give the other regions some competition. Also excited to see the "wildcard" teams like Gigabyte Marines back!!! Loving how they are slowly but surely making a name for themselves and their regions as they improve each year. Should be a great Worlds!!!!

To quote the great sage and screenplay writer Crow T. Robot:

"It hardly seems worth the effort but... BOOOOOOO! BOOOOOOO!"

I can't say I'm happy about it, but TSM have certainly proved themselves as the best team in NA...

...for now.
