Yeh, the owner of Dignitas obviously owns both the EU and NA teams. The rules state that no owner can possess 2 professional level teams, which wasn't a problem until Dignitas EU got into the LCS through promotion. So selling the spot is selling the team to another person, which will probably warrant a name change, etc. Team 8 was independent, which means they never had an owner. Somebody would probably manage the money they made at tournaments to make it so they could live somewhere, eat, travel, etc. Usually an owner will cover all expenses of the players because the owners get far greater returns if that team starts winning. Also, these teams get paid just for being in the LCS. So if TSM won worlds, and took home 3m in cash, the players wouldn't divide up 3m. The owner would get the 3m, probably give the players a huge bonus, invest some in the team, then the rest would go to the owners bank account. So essentially, selling the team or your spot means that you are looking for financial backing and somebody who is passionate enough to give you the tools necessary to succeed.
