I'm an amateur tournament shoutcaster looking for advice.

Hello Summoners!

My nickname is ChrisCrossed, and I'm an amateur shoutcaster. Twice each semester, our college hosts a League of Legends tournament, which a fellow shoutcaster and I stream on Twitch. However, we don't tend to receive too many (if any) viewers, which has always been a bit of a disappointment.

I'm coming to you all, looking for some suggestions on what we can do to get a few more viewers. My buddies and I tend to do what we can to improve the quality of each tournament and cast, providing various details such as team/player discussions, pre-game shows, upper/lower brackets, and Best-of-5 final tournaments. Our tournaments are rather large even, sometimes hosting up to 16 teams!

However, the main problem that I feel we have is that we can't afford to hold constant tournaments. We are a college and cannot hold competitions but twice a semester, and thus it is difficult to keep a viewer count up.

That said, I personally have been proud of the progress our tournament broadcasts have been making, and feel it is a shame to not find any interested viewers.

You gotta plaster everywhere. Be shameless. Got friends who play? Tell them. Go to your student union, make them advertise for you. Leverage what you're doing, and the energy you put into it. You gotta advertise to the people you know and the people you know will like it. Also, how open are you to casting elsewhere?

Personally, I love casting and do it with a separate group during the Summer. However, it is impossible to balance during the school year (21 credit semesters makes it rough), so I keep it to the two tournaments.

Bahaha, I know what you mean, I run a club at my school and it gets rough pretty fast. I was going to ask if you'd be opposed to casting portions of a tournament in March, but you seem like you have your hands full :P

I certainly would! It's a ton of fun to do, but I run a ton of credits each semester, so it isn't quite feasible :(

I recommend using more mass media. Create a twitter account for the tournaments. Create a facebook page! Post on the boards every time you go live! Create a website! Sell your tournament man! We want top see stuff like this! The main way to get viewers at first is to get the people you know to watch first. Just gotta reach out man. Do some advertising! We won't come if we don't know about it!

I've attempted posting to Reddit in the past... Usually the day before, as well as hours before we begin. However, no post has ever done well and always gets downvoted immediately.

Are these forums generally better and more receptive? I'll definitely give this forum more notice from now on...
