The ruling on TSM and RNG

I feel like esports is pretty much rubbish, because regardless of the head to head matches, RNG gets a pass because they beat TSM when they preformed badly. So what both teams end the group stage 3-3 it is a tie regardless of the head to head matches. What's a tie breaker gonna do its going to put it either RNG or TSM in that second slot. One more game would not kill esports. Everyone says league would lose credibility for changing a rule under a special circumstance. Yet a majority of esports followers and the league community love tie breakers because it shows who is the better team, it's also thrilling because it's an all or nothing scenario. I say the ruling was rubbish and should be re-visited. I'm just one voice against many.

RNG showed whos the better team, they defeated TSM 2 times before no need for a 3rd.

All that proves is that RNG is good at beating TSM. Rules are rules though, asking for a redo is childish.

I feel like this is becoming a big deal when even for regular season it is used like this. If by the end of the regular season in LCS 2 teams are 10-6. The standings of those 2 teams are determined by their head to head record. In the case of TSM and RNG, RNG beat them twice so there was no reason to go into a tie breaker. Sure people would want that but the rule is fair. The only reason people are bringing it up now is because it's TSM that got dropped. If RNG got dropped this wouldn't even be an issue. Double standards OP

Both teams only went 1 and 2 on the day, too. But we do it this way because every other sport does it, nevermind the World Cup and superbowl are NOT best of 5 matches. Comparison not valid. Stop using it LCS.

Right, hide behind "league community love tie breakers". Translation is "we want TSM to have another shot that they didn't deserve". It's only TSM fanboys crying, that TSM deserves a tie breaker. They lost twice to RNG, so essentialy they lost in bo3 to them. Also you're all acting as if the TSM players didn't know, that they wouldn't get a tie breaker in case they lost. Ever asked them about that? With all that crying all you're showing is a complete disrespect towards the team you're rooting for. Some fans, you fucks are. Bandwagoners and nothing else.

Why would they revisit this rule, professional sports use that to determine tie-breakers. Look at american football, they use head to head to determine seeding and who potentially gets to play offs or home field advantage. It doesn't matter how badly RNG lost in their other games, they both ended at 3 and 3 with TSM showing they were outclassed by RNG twice. If TSM was the better team, they would not have lost to them TWICE. Thusly, RNG is the better team and gets to advance. RNG already won the "best of 3" match up with 2 wins. It is no different in pro sports.

I find it funny that people will dismiss RNG 2-0'ing TSM and try to pretend that 2 of TSM's 3 wins being against Splyce, the arguably worst team in the group, is apparently worth more than that, despite TSM being 1st NA seed.

You had your tie-breaker/all-or-nothing scenario when TSM went against RNG the 2nd match. They lost. Get over it.

Still a tie regardless. TSM beats SSW, and didn't lose to splyce once, yet RNG loses to splyce and doesn't beat SSW, but they are the better team?

As much as I would love to have seen that rematch occur to be a tiebreaker of sorts, RNG did beat TSM twice, showing up both times they faced off. TSM didn't. That last match of the day yesterday was essentially the tiebreaker already. One of them was going home and one was not. They were tied, and needed to break the tie.

Tbh, it doesnt make sense when 3-3 TSM loses to a 3-3 RNG, its a tie, so its equal skill. A rematch would break this tie and truly decide which is better. EU LUL

Can't really say the last match was a tie when they didn't reach the scores they are at until the day was done. They are tied for second. RNG didn't beat SSW not once but TSM did which honestly says a lot TSM was the only team to do so. I call rubbish on it.

I'm doing this because it's something I feel is an issue and would be an issue for me if I saw any team lose this chance. I'm not disrespecting anyone by expressing an opinion. So sorry you feel that way. I'm not on a bandwagon. I'm a fan of the sport itself. TSM did deserve the shot as does every team that steps on that stage. I'm not hiding behind anything. A tie is a tie. Regardless of the head to head the scores are the same. Both teams did well they both had their moments.

Are you protesting all around the world against this ruling that every other sport uses? I highly doubt it. You may say that you're not a TSM fan, or that you'd do the same if that was the case for RNG, but sorry - it's internet, and I don't really believe what people on internet say or claim.

Did you read my comment about how professional sports use the head to head match ups to determine seeding and who goes home or who stays in the event of a tie. American football is just one example, where the head to head match up in the division can and has determined who advances or who gets the home field advantage.

Having the same record does not automatically result in a tiebreaker. TSM lost not once but twice to RNG. It doesn't matter how poorly RNG performed in their other games. If RNG was such a poor team, then TSM would have beaten them at least once. They did not, thus they do not have the right to advance as they ultimately proved they were the weaker of the two teams when it came to a head to head. In pro sports, there would be no rematch and the same holds true with esports. It is a fair and just rule and has been explicitly stated beforehand what the terms for tie-breakers were and has held true season to season. They won't revisit the rule either as it is a staple in professional sports.

You can't overturn the rule just to give TSM another shot. They had theirs, twice. It would be unfair to RNG as everyone knew beforehand what the rules were and everyone agreed to them. That was the terms of play. If you really wanted your tie-breaker, essentially the final game between them was as whoever won would've advanced.

I mean, the rules are the rules. It's completely fucking dumb that the EULCS tiebreaker is whichever team has a worse individual match record, but those are the rules and you can't complain when one Quarterfinal is stacked and one is garbage.

I see that no one really cares at all. Nothing really new in the league community. All your arguments stand on one thing, a rule. Yet none of you get that league is a game ran by its community, none of you are really willig to go that extra mile, none of you are really willig to stand up and say what needs to be said. You all just watch, you all just follow. A rule can be changed, a rule can be re-visited, it can be edited. But all I see in my post is the saltiness of a community I've watched grow from the beginning of this game, to become one of the worst communities I've been apart of. You guys bash me, you flame me, all because what I'm standing up for something. Theres a line in the original post that sums this all up very clearly. "I'm one voice against many" maybe you guys are fine with just following. You know what though I'm not, I'm going to point it out. So go ahead stay salty my friends I expect nothing more from this community. Honestly disappointed in it.

There are only two reasons to complain about the tiebreaker method used by Riot.

TSM fanboys being rabid and cannot accept the team failed again.
Person who wants to see as many matches as possible.

If you fall into category one, as many whiny NA posters do, piss off. If you fall into category two, I have several rebuttals. First, you have no claim to additional free entertainment. Go watch a solo stream if you want to see more LoL played. Secondly, head-to-head record is often taken into account before a tiebreaker game is called for in nearly any tournament format. Forcing a team to reveal more strategy and champion pocket picks is not a good thing down the line. Third, any system that generates a score based on teams final standings in groups to generate a tiebreaker is subjective to the scoring. By one way, TSM arbitrarily advances, by another RNG does, or by another method they are forced to play a third game.

It's fine how it is. Complaints are coming from spoiled brats who either are fanboys or never happy with what they are given.

Oh, and TSM did have three chances against RNG already, but one was thrown out because Bjerg couldn't see balls in his face
