Power Rankings - 7/28/2015

Riot··0 votes·108,540 views

Just when we thought the 2015 Season would play out according to script, nothing went exactly as planned.

The top teams from nearly every region have been consistent throughout: Edward Gaming, SKTelecom T1, Fnatic, and ahq e-sports club. To keep things interesting, we've been hoping all season long that legitimate contenders would arise. Alas, in many cases it seemed that no one really could. Until now.

New contenders have emerged in every region, and we are left with an odd feeling of having no idea who is going to Worlds, even as Regional Qualifiers are almost underway.

Read on to see who we think have the inside track on regional supremacy on the road to Worlds...

Someone finally took down the king. In 2015 Summer, few teams have managed to even take a single game off of SKT. It seems the first to get the best of them since MSI is none other than CJ Entus. Perhaps it shouldn't have been surprising, considering CJ's close set versus SKT in Champions Spring, where one of the all-time great ADC performances by Jun-sik "Bang" Bae was the only reason SKT was not eliminated from the Playoffs.

SKT is now 3-3 in their last six games and have not been playing particularly well of late, despite now being a mathematical lock for the World Championship. However, we now are not sure which among the Korean teams are in a good spot to beat them, or at least secure their own World Championship seeds.

Given CJ's victory and KT's close loss to SKT, we think these two are likely the front-runners to get out of Korea, but it's possible for Najin and Jin Air to round into form.

China looked the most stable this week. Weird, huh?

EDG continues its run of dominance now that all their starters are recovered from injury and the roster experimentation has largely halted. Snake looked slightly better than LGD last week, after LGD struggled to close out the increasingly enfeebled Team WE. But even so, LGD remains a strong team in China.

In the past few weeks, we've had high hopes that Invictus or Vici would finally turn it on and meet expectations. But we've continued to be disappointed as both teams only make incremental improvements (in the case of IG) or no improvements (in the case of VG).

Overall, since the announcement of quite possibly the most convoluted Playoffs bracket in history, teams seem to have been trying much harder to improve their standing. It probably has something to do with the knowledge that an exhaustive gauntlet awaits them if they don't steadily climb up the ladder.

Not that many people really expected Gravity to be a power house in North America forever, we were a little disappointed that the wheels came off so abruptly.

Altec was shut down, Keane was inconsistent, and Move was absolutely subjugated by Team Impulse's Rush in the tiebreaker.

Given that, it's worth pointing out that Impulse's move down the standings is not a sign of weakness -- in fact, we almost put them above CLG in the Rankings. But CLG looked pretty solid in their last few games, and given the last few weeks from CLG, it's hard to say that TIP is definitively better -- especially given the struggles of incorporating substitute mid laner Gate so late in the season.

It's worth noting that Cloud9 managed to keep their Worlds chances alive (by losing to TDK and... beating TSM??), and it's now extremely likely they'll have at least a chance at Worlds. The dream is alive!

Fnatic is now the best team in the history of the LCS. But that doesn't mean their work is over. They remained relatively untested throughout the regular season, but now have Best of 5 sets to refine their skills.

There wasn't much movement throughout the rest of the standings, but Giants and ROCCAT were barely able to edge into the Playoffs over Elements and Gambit. The suspension of ADC FORG1VEN more or less sealed GMB's fate after being in contention up until last week -- a very frustrating way to end the season.

For now though, it looks like a battle for 2nd place. Can anyone beat Fnatic?

ahq is the first team to lock in their region's 1st place seed into Worlds, and they did it with relative ease in a 3-0 beatdown in the Championship. However, the surprise of the LMS Playoffs wasn't in the Final; it was in the Hong Kong Esports vs. Flash Wolves Semifinal.

Flash Wolves had looked like the second-best team throughout the LMS regular season, with only a few losses to teams other than ahq. HKE, on the other hand, had struggled throughout the season and recently have had to battle through the suspension of ADC Soo-bin "Raison" Jeong.

[[{"fid":"18118","view_mode":"article_image","fields":{"format":"article_image","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/article_image/public/HKE.jpg%3Fitok%3DxjHBGtRt","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-article-image","height":"315","style":"width: 700px; height: 315px; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid; margin: 10px;","width":"700"}}]]

It would seem at first glance that HKE is better off without him. Substitute ADC and former Taipei Sniper ADC Yong-Jie "GodJJ" Wang filled in and was excellent in the HKE 3-1 victory over favorites FW.

This sets up a Regionals matchup of TPA vs. HKE, who are the two hottest teams in the region (other than ahq), with MSE and FW playing on the other side of the bracket. The winner of TPA vs. HKE will likely earn the second Worlds spot, but anything is possible.

Not much changed in the Brazilian power rankings this week, as only one series was played: the battle for third place. The changing of the guard is complete, and Rampage have regained the keys to the kingdom. They went up against FocusMe in the LJL Season 2 Finals live in Tokyo and came out victorious in an emphatic 3-1. Looking like the better team from top to bottom, Rampage's rotations were smoother, their positioning more solid, and their plays more decisive. A pocket Zilean mid let FocusMe steal back one game, but that did little to change the tone of the night. This was Ozone Rampage's time to shine, and none could argue they aren't the best team in Japan.

Their win also makes things simple. The Japanese Wild Card representative is the winner of the LJL Grand Championship on August 8, which is a Best of 5 between the two teams with the most points. If FocusMe had won, there would've been a tiebreaker for that No. 2. But with Rampage's victory, they're tied with the Season 1 Champs. So these two champions will slug it out in one more series at Belle Salle Akihabara, in front of the biggest crowd of the year. Is two weeks enough time for FocusMe to Turn the Tables? We'll have to wait and find out.

After seven weeks of fierce competition in the Turkish Championship League, the Top 6 teams have qualified for the Turkish Grand Finals. Beşiktaş and Dark Passage had a bye to the Semifinals, whereas HWA, TT, OHM, and NR1 battled it out in Quarterfinals last weekend.

Team Turquality played against Oyun Hizmetleri. Since signing Rawbin on Week 3, they have improved their performance significantly. After his arrival, TT won 7 of their last 10 matches after a horrendous 0-4 start. However, it was another Swede that dominated the series against OHM. Xyraz single-handedly won the first game and aided his team to win the series 3-1, leading the score charts. Mid laner LongB also showed prowess picking four different champions and accumulating a 7.3 KDA in total. TT will try to keep up the Quarterfinals success, but they will have to beat Winter Split champions BJK to reach the Finals stage.

In the other Quarterfinal series, HWA managed to win against NR1. They won the first game in 26 minutes, only conceding three kills. All in all, HWA managed to sweep NR1, but it was obvious that they need to improve their shotcalling and decision-making in the Semifinals.

TGF Semifinals will showcase great matches among the best teams in the league and promise fast-paced, high-quality League of Legends action. As always, you can catch TCL action via lolespor.com on 1-2 of August 1:00 PM CET/4:00 AM PDT.

The StarSeries LAN Finals turned out to be the most one-sided in the league's history. Dolphins and Hard Random are undoubtedly the CIS leaders, both in strategy and execution. But despite that, HR solo laners are still the best in the CIS and good enough to challenge international teams. The advantages gained in mid and top propelled them to victory over Dolphins in the Final.

Compared to the previous league Finals, Hard Random isn't that dominant anymore. Before playing in the International Wild Card Tournament they need to make some significant improvements for a shot at Worlds.

Our finalists are locked in, and it'll be a rematch against the undefeated Chiefs and giant killers Legacy. It's important to note that Chiefs have never beaten Legacy in a series, but given their form, an upset seems more difficult than ever for the OPL second seed.

A shot at Worlds qualification is on the line, so tune in on August 8th, 6pm AEST at www.twitch.tv/riotgamesoceania.

Yeah, okay this is a mess. A lot of teams went up, a lot went down, and there's no way I can explain the nuance of all of it. But given that this is the last numbered list I'll write for at least.... a few weeks, I'll try.

[[{"fid":"18123","view_mode":"full","fields":{"format":"full","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/full_width_scale/public/Bengi.jpg%3Fitok%3DdvWze2BM","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-full","height":"573","style":"width: 350px; height: 371px; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid; margin: 10px; float: right;","width":"540"}}]]SKT has not played well recently, and with the backing of every member of the Korean panel, SKT is not the best team in the world right now. EDG has shown that when they are at full strength and trying, they are nigh unbeatable.

Moving on down the list we have Fnatic moving up to an all-time high for a Western team at 4th place. Full disclosure: I went a little rogue, but I have methods to my madness. For the past month we have had an internal debate about Fnatic vs KOO vs China's No. 3. Given that KOO hasn't looked as good as CJ or KT recently, I asked the Power Rankings panelists, "What does Fnatic have to do to prove they are better than Korea's 2nd place team?" The answer was "Do better than 33% against Asian teams."

[[{"fid":"18124","view_mode":"article_image","fields":{"format":"article_image","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/article_image/public/Fnatic_9.jpg%3Fitok%3DcfIAS2uX","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-article-image","height":"315","style":"width: 700px; height: 315px; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid; margin: 10px;","width":"700"}}]]

But you see, there is a problem with this answer. The problem is that not only is Fnatic 33% against Asian teams (referring obviously to their MSI record), they are 33% against the two best teams in the world. You know who is less than 33% vs SKT and EDG -- almost everyone else in the world.

[[{"fid":"18125","view_mode":"full","fields":{"format":"full","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/full_width_scale/public/Faker_4.jpg%3Fitok%3DBZcnzZjD","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-full","height":"581","style":"width: 350px; height: 377px; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid; margin: 10px; float: right;","width":"540"}}]]Fnatic's record versus SKT puts them in better company than every team in the world, other than EDG or possibly CJ Entus.

If you want the majority of the panel's ranking, it is Fnatic at 5th place behind CJ Entus, but given CJ's body of work, and the undefeated play of Fnatic, I just couldn't do it. Get out the pitchforks if you must.

There. I said it. Now I'll try to get to the rest.

CJ's ascension up the rankings comes largely due to their dismantling of SKT, and this should be pretty self-explanatory (and you can get more context in the Korea section above.)

[[{"fid":"18126","view_mode":"article_image","fields":{"format":"article_image","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/article_image/public/ahq2.jpg%3Fitok%3Du4pTYvgy","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-article-image","height":"315","style":"width: 700px; height: 315px; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid; margin: 10px;","width":"700"}}]]

ahq looked great in their Summer Playoffs and will likely be a heavy-hitter when we get to Worlds, and thus went up a single spot. Correspondingly, KOO Tigers looked worse relative to the rest of Korea and have fallen.

Invictus, HKE, and Najin have all looked much better recently, HKE as the most standout example after upsetting FW in the LMS Semifinals (for more context, look at the Taiwan section).

[[{"fid":"18127","view_mode":"article_image","fields":{"format":"article_image","field_file_image_alt_text[und][0][value]":"","field_file_image_title_text[und][0][value]":""},"tagName":"IMG","src":"http%3A//riot-web-cdn.s3-us-west-1.amazonaws.com/lolesports/s3fs-public/styles/article_image/public/Kakao_2.jpg%3Fitok%3DCZ5Peet1","type":"media","attributes":{"class":"media-element file-article-image","height":"315","style":"width: 700px; height: 315px; border-width: 10px; border-style: solid; margin: 10px;","width":"700"}}]]

Team Liquid and Counter Logic Gaming have both proven they are solid teams, but still need work to prove they are among the best in the world. On that note, H2K and Origen feel at about the same level. Luckily for them, and for us as viewers and fans, we get to see their improvement over the course of the next few weeks as they try to win the LCS Championship.

What do you guys think about this week's Power Rankings? Do we value Asia too highly? Is Fnatic for real? Can anyone beat EDG? Do you buy into the LMS hype? Is this the #GoldenAge?

C9! The dream is real!

yourfavefatguy11 votes

I think that at this point, they are guaranteed a spot in the gauntlet. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the only way for them to not make it is if TSM and TL took 5th and 6th place... and Liquid has the bye. And on top of that, while the other three teams who will be playing in the gauntlet have to focus on playoffs, C9 can practice for the gauntlet, study the competition's playoff performances, and work on bringing out some surprises that the other teams will have no way of seeing coming.

I SUPA I5 votes

Probably TSM will make it 5th :p

Sogreblute8 votes

Cloud9 are going to be in the gauntlet. Team Impulse vs Dignitas doesn't matter who wins, because Cloud9 would have more CP than either of them. Dignitas has 0 CP and Impulse has 30. So if Impulse lose they'll have 50 CP total and if Dignitas lose they will have 20 CP. That means either way Cloud9 will have more CP than one of them which is all the need since at the end of playoffs a total of five teams would have CP and only four of them will be in the gauntlet. So that means Cloud9's CP would have to exceed only one of those teams. Cloud9 will be in the gauntlet and they can still get a bye into the semis of the gauntlet if TSM beat Gravity, Dignitas beat Impulse, CLG/Dignitas (either one will be in) goes in the third place match and lose to be 4th place. that means the CP would be Gravity 30 CP (since they have 10 already), Impulse 50 CP (Since they have 30 already), Dignitas 40 CP or CLG 50 CP (since they have 10 already.) Cloud9 semi gauntlet bye dream is alive! (Correct me if I'm wrong please.)

I'm pretty sure TSM will win. I'm pretty sure they will preform better than gravity at playoffs. I hope they are not 5th place. TSM I believe.

I don't wanna see C9 at Worlds this year.... even if they are better now they are far away from being a top team.

Crexis20 votes

I agree the C9 has had their struggles but if they defeat all the other teams in the gauntlet then that means at the end of it all they are the 3rd best team in NA and do deserve to go to worlds.

I think with more practice they can be a powerful team and perform well at worlds. TSM has been slumping the last half of the split while C9 has been picking it up. One could argue TSM does not deserve worlds either unless they can figure things out and start getting some convincing wins. But with all the CP they have they can come close to auto qualify for worlds if they can make it past the first round of playoffs.

I am a dreamer and do hope to see C9 at worlds again. :)

RazerX2 votes

C9 will not do well at worlds so it is best if they do not go. It'd be better for NA if Team Liquid or Gravity went. All the other teams are inconsistent.

CypressLB2 votes

All of NA is inconsistent.

TL,TIP, CLG look the best right now.

I'm an insane C9 fan - but we'll only see them at Worlds if they EARN it. #thankyouHai #thedream

Fnatic is a well deserved 4th on the international list! This coming from an NA fan.

I don't see how Tsm is ranked ahead of cloud 9 though. If this is a true weekly power ranking, Cloud 9 seems to have turned things around. Yes they lost to TDK, but that was also a game that no team would prep for. Those crazy picks are what got TDK the win. Definitely seemed to catch C9 off guard.

GIFT OF LOVE5 votes

Power Rankings are sometimes inaccurate. Their perspective may not be the same as yours. Depends if Cloud 9 makes it to worlds or not. If they make it to worlds and perform well, they probably be higher. Its up to Riot who they think is better lol.

Cheryl Cole11 votes

Don't push it dude, don't push it. One step at a time. We already get Fnatic on 4th and EDG above SKT.

jackyboris7 votes

lol Fnatic's actually ranking will not be 4th. at least 5 Asian teams are better than them

I SUPA I10 votes

I can only think of 3. Being EDG, SKT LGD. The rest are pretty inconsistent.

DeathToHeretics9 votes

Agreed. A lot of those teams who's names aren't EDG/SKT and maybe QG are very inconsistent, doing well one day and then poorly the next.

Gahlo7 votes

The rest are also playing in Leagues where the next highest on the international ranking is 15th. Is Fnatic a good team? Yes. Is their competition good? Hell no.

Fnatic shouldn't have even cracked top 8 given who they play against.

Chymaerus6 votes

I'm not from EU and I think that seems like a pretty unrealistic appraisal given how well they performed at msi and how close those matches were against the top teams in the world. And this was quite a while ago, they've only been improving since then.

I agree that Fnatics competition is relatively pretty low but I also have felt throughout the season that they've pretty clearly stood head and shoulders above their competition. Even at the very end of the season when they were trying new things they still won convincingly and never dropped a game, even if parts of a couple matches looked shaky briefly. Do they deserve 4th? Maybe maybe not, but Im pretty sure they're not as low as 8th.

Ultimately though these rankings mean little. How many times now have we seen teams rise to the level of competition and blow our socks off or just not show up in the strength that was expected?

Whatever happens, worlds are gonna be fun this year!!

Cheryl Cole4 votes

Given who NA play against they wouldn never reach top 20. So be you i would be pretty happy.

One win against TSM is not enough for C9 to skip ahead of TSM in rankings.

It's not one win, they've beaten them both times this split.

I SUPA I14 votes

Fnatic rank 4? thats marvelous and was expecting it this week to be quite honest. I was also expecting to see EDG first this week...All in all..I do agree with most of the standings.

jbs9842 votes

This is imo the most accurate list they've had yet. The only thing I would say is that I believe that QG are over rated, especially after seeing how they got demolished by EDG, and I think at 3rd should be Fnatic, 4th Snake, 5th QG.

BIAS WILL NEVER BE DEFEATED Now where is my pitchfork

jackyboris11 votes

Let's be honest. Although Fnatic have an amazing record so far, their actual ranking will not be in the 4th. Surely they seem deserve it since they won all the games in EU so far. However, Top 2 teams from KR and CN are clearly better than Fnatic if you actually watch LPL and LCK. Apart from that, there are still some teams in KR and CN that might have chance beating Fnatic. AHQ from LMS looks pretty good also. I do not think Fnatic will be able to beat ahq easily. I would say 50 50 chance. I don't mean to hurt Fnatic fan's feeling. I really wish EU or NA can win the world champ. However, Asian teams are clearly better so far.

Kinzu8 votes

Biggest question mark for Fnatic won't be answered until World's. Are they really this good or is EU really just this bad now? I mean you only have 3 teams with a winning record in the region. NA is seen as weaker for some reason right now yet every single playoff team has a winning record. I do think Fnatic are better than any NA team but I'm not sure how many other EU playoff teams you could put ahead of the NA playoff teams.

Ale non è male11 votes

Please. Just please. Are you really arguing that NA is stronger because their bottom playoffs team have a positive reocrd? This has more to do with NME,T8, C9 (before Meteos substitution) and TDK (before the resolution of their VISA problems) handling out easy wins to the playoffs teams throughout all the season

It is true that EU is definitively weaker than what they looked like at the start of the Split, mainly because Origen depends far too much from top lane meta for SoAZ performance which can go from one of the world best to one of the worst in EU LCS depending if tank meta is favoured, and after a start of the split when he was at the best because of meta right now his performances are a bit lower according to the nerfs made to tank meta, and there is not a reliable 2nd force in the EU with H2k and Uol inconsistency... but the fact of winning record depends more from CW/Dentist situation that happened and UoL/Gambit having problems towards the end of the Split when they were in the race to get a positive record (with gambit slipping from the perspective of a positive record to relegations) . , Giants (in the first half of the split) and Roccat (in the second half) managed to take multiple games off the team to the top of the ranking while losing 3 of the 4 games played vs Elements themselves

Fnatic is better than anyone on NA, Origen, H2K, UoL are on TL/TSM on good day level, then come the other NA playoff teams (obviously there is an asterisk on TiP depending if they have XiaoWeiXiao or not, if they don't they go down a tier), then Roccat and Giants that are about Team Dignitas level - with Giants being probably worse than Roccat/Dig and worst playoff teams in the entire LCS -

Landrein7 votes

Wow, has an EU server player argued about free wins? Every team outside of the top three in EU is a cafeteria. Or maybe more like an all you can eat buffet. TDK would have good record against much of the EU LCS.

The difference between Ikinzu and Ale. Ikinzu is willing to concede what is factually accurate, namely that Fanatic is with out a doubt the best team in the West. Ale will ignore and deny any evidence that contradicts his view of EU supremely.

awer4553DAFERdaB9 votes

What makes you think that every team outside of the top three is a cafeteria in EU? You know wahts disgusting? Watchin statistics.

First dragon taken by TSM around 19minutes. For fnatic thats 12-13 minutes ( 12:30 or so it was ) in a game this competitive.. thats huge. Actually nearly the entire EU lcs has quicker timers on those. - Now i hear you thinking that might be a matter of priorities ( even tho 7minutes between Fnatic/TSM is huge ) But realisticly if we look at the average gold per minute for each team, we see that EU scores higher from the top to the bottem than NA does, while dealing with dragon way way sooner.

And the statistics go on and on..

NA likes to do the "if " "if" game. Remember when cloud 9 was at it's peak? Probably best NA team so far at that point. Even at that point when EU had a slump ( after a succesful EU season 1/2 ) Fnatic beat that cloud9. The current Fnatic is miles further than the old fnatic and quite honestly NA hit that slump right now.

In other words. Old EU beat NA at their prime, when EU had a slump.. Right now EU is a powerhouse with fnatic and NA in general is slacking.

No, EU isn't a cafeteria, actually it's diong better than NA in general. If you want to argue, come with some good arguments instead of just talking, bring some statistics.

Plz don't say ever again Origen H2K UOL are as good as TL, Origen can probably compare since they are two teams with good individual players. But Origen is like TL lite, On paper tl's bot lane is way better. Xpeke fell off ish but I still think he is better then Fenix, Quas and IwDominate are better then sOAZ and Amazing. H2K has great early game and macro play. But internationally they will get beaten by teams like KT for example. And if they get the 3rd seed they would have a really hard group. And UOL is just solo queue team. I think the top 20 LCS teams go like this 1: Fnatic 2: Team Liquid 3: TIP 4: OG 5: H2K 6: CLG 7: C9 (I think they are currently 4th best in NA even though the standings says otherwise, and UOL is just too soloqueue) 8: ROC 9: GV (They might have gotten lots of BO1 wins cause Keane just cheeses, they could get shut down in BO5s really easily) 10:GMB(The 3rd best team in EU with Forg1ven, but without him its Cabochard in elo hell.) 11:UOL(A team that is overhyped where you got a mid laner and a support in Elo Hell.) 12:TSM 13:EL 14:SK 15:GIA(They got away with the playoff spot since they had a good start of this split. This team has trash drafts.) 16:DIG 17:TDK(They play better solo queue then a normal draft suprisingly) 18:T8 19:CW(Tied with NME, Freeze in elo hell.) 19:NME(Tied with CW, Innox playing cheese picks.)

Cheryl Cole3 votes

Well statement that OG is better than TL is as legit as vice versa. And 2 weeks ago TL was somewhere in the middle top of NA LCS. So you should stop hype them maybe.

TurquoiseYoshi9 votes

TIP lost a semi-base race to TL and beat Gravity twice in 2 days. CLG beat Team8 and Dignitas, and lost securely to TL. Are we really putting CLG above TIP? Sure, CLG has had many good games lately, but TIP just had an 8 game win streak snapped by TL. But we'll see who wins in the Semis. Because TIP will beat Dignitas. Probably.

dont forgot about the fact clg prob wanted 2nd and didnt put 100% in, facing tip or dignitas is way preferable then facing tsm or gravity, especially since its clg

I SUPA I9 votes

I will much rather face Gravity than TiP

TurquoiseYoshi5 votes

TIP has only lost to TL since the midway point in the split. I would rather hope to face Gravity than have to face TIP.

Kinzu7 votes

Yeah I'd rather face the much more predictable TSM or the 1 damage threat Gravity. There are questions to if Gravity's cheese picks will hold up for a 5 game series and even say they beat TSM how much will they have left not already shown for TL? TSM is solid but pretty easy to prepare for as well.

CLG has a much harder path against TiP. They should hope DIG win that series because a 5 game set against Impact and Rush will be rough. Rush will likely just crush Xmithie and carry TiP.

DeathToHeretics4 votes

It'd be a huge surprise if Rush doesn't just crush Xmithie, and then use that advantage to pull Gate and/or Impact ahead

GrubHooligan4 votes

If you're CLG, you don't want to be on the same side of the bracket as TSM, both because they haven't beaten TSM in a long long time, and because until we see otherwise, TSM is still world class when it comes to playing in series. TSM routinely proves that even when they don't win the first game of the series, their between-game adjustments are top notch, and they get better and better as the series goes on. Summer 2014, IEM World Championship, Spring 2015 - there's a definite pattern.

So if you're CLG, and your option is the side of the bracket with TSM, or the side of the bracket with DIG or a XWX-less TiP, you want the side of the bracket that doesn't have TSM.

Cantrips2 votes

TiP had their streak snapped by a combination of XwX's poor choices and Gate being pitted against Liquid's Azir mid, imo. TiP is great, but they've got only a long shot at the finals, imo. :(
