Possible solutions to Blue side advantage in ESPORTS. Riot PLS

What would have been the result of this worlds final if SKT had 3 games in a row on blue side? Did they choose the red side because they wanted the last pick and ban advantage? or because the Beijing stadium was arranged like that? Why they preferred blue side in semifinals (like the rest of the teams) and they switched to red in finals (the patch being the same... 7.18)? Why they didn't chose blue side even after 2-0?

Different side winrates in pro are because of the baron/drake pits sides, unsymmetrical map paths, camera angle and pick/ban orders. Is hard to know exactly the proportion any of those influence the win rates but one thing is for sure.. they are not balanced.

For those who don't know the problem.

Is obvious that the blue side has a camera angle advantage from the ARAM win side statistics. Even in the high elo this difference exists. Blue side has zones with camera angle advantage. For example: Blue top inner turret, Red bot inner turret and even the center of the map.

I didn't see any statistics of pro side win rate difference, but even if at pro level this difference might not be as high, this doesn't mean there's no advantage of the blue side. Pro teams might not initiate team-fights in those zones, because they feel is not a good position. The statistics that say the truth in this case are the team fights results by map zones.

So here are some possible solutions.

  1. Make everything equal for both teams. -Make map 100% symmetrical and have both blue and red side possibility to change the camera angle. Seeing the latest camera angle replays I guess is not hard to do... -Make baron and dragons spawn pit dependent on some early game result. For example: the team with first blood receive some sort of item "baron bait" and they have to use it in the river side/ pit where they prefer. Or some other sort of mini game with flags or region control for some time... This will also make the first blood/early game more interesting and increase the advantage of having a strong early game comp. The game will be more spectacular with more champs and more diverse team comps.

  2. Give a side a significant advantage. (tennis like) -Keep camera angle and baron spawn pit as it is. -Give the blue side some advantage in pick order and/or number of bans. -The winner of the game is decided by the best of 3 sets. First set: Team 1 in Blue side, Red side, Blue side. Second set: Team 2 in Blue side, Red side, Blue side. Set 3 is a tie breaker with winner by having 2 wins advantage. -By giving the advantage in pick order and/or number of bans you can let the system for casual players as it is... since the pick order and bans are different between casual ranked and esports.

In the best of 5 the numbers of games in a match averages between 3 and 5, with this system it will average ( I expect) between 5 and 8. BUT!!! giving a big advantage to one side decreases the average game duration. So it will be more spectacular for basically same amount of time. And in the rare occasions of long tiebreaks... well those are epic fights and everybody will love them. Also consider the mental strength dimension added to this type of match... this will increase the average professional player age by few years. Without this, the esports professional will remain a startcraft clicking machine. I would have liked to see more of MSF vs SKT and less of the usual meta skill matches.

  1. a combination of 1) and 2) which will be the best.

Different side winrates in pro play aren't because of camera angles.
