There are many roads to the Mid Season Invitational in Florida, United States. For teams from the Wildcard Regions, it's through the International Wildcard Invitational. On April 21, 2015, seven teams will head to the VW Arena in Istanbul, Turkey for a chance to take on the best teams from the five major leagues around the world. The teams taking part in the event are:
  • Chiefs from Oceania
  • Bangkok Titans* from Southeast Asia
  • Kaos Latin Gamers from Latin America
  • DetonatioN FocusMe from Japan
  • Hard Random from Commonwealth of Independent States
  • Beşiktaş e-Sports Club from Turkey
  • INTZ e-Sports from Brazil
*Bangkok Titans replace Saigon Fantastic 5 who are unable to attend due to Visa issues.

What's the format?

The IWCI follows the standard event format. The tournament progresses from a Best of 1, Round Robin, Group Stage to a Best of 5, Single Elimination, Bracket Stage. After the 21 games of the Round Robin Groups and any resulting tiebreakers, the top four teams advance to the Bracket Stage. In the Bracket Stage the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds will play in one Semifinal while the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds will play in the other. The winner of the Bracket Stage is the IWCI winner and will advance to MSI.

What's on the line?

As one of the few international tournaments that is open to all teams (not necessary to be invited), the IWCI represents teams' best chance to showcase the strength of their region. In addition, a spot at the Mid Season Invitational is up for grabs, where the top teams from North America, Europe, Taiwan, Korea and China will compete for regional pride.

Wildcard Invitational should have a name change to "International Punching Bag" though with Kabuum! winning vs Alliance in worlds, maybe them being there is for the "Rudy Effect".

IWCI and MSI will be huge for Wildcard Teams. Playing against others professional team will help them a lot and it's not like we expect any Wildcard team to be strong at MSI, but at least they can grow as a team. I wish I had a chance like that item 3070
