Hey summoners (Okay that sounded like sky but hey. respect) Is league of Legends a sport? This has been a controversial topic among my friends. Around half say yes and the other say no Let me know your thoughts in the comments
E-sports has it's own definition regardless of what you think a sport is, so you can always say it can be that. The only thing that separates them is one is more physical and the other is mental anyway.
Its not a sport in the traditional sense in which requires both physical and mental strength & stamina. Esports have more to do with mental focus and mechanical skill. Its similar to why chess isn't an olympic sport but shooting is.
A word is merely a container of similar things, such that people can communicate more efficiently.
A word's meaning can shift over time and sometimes we create new words to communicate better.
The word 'sports' gives the readers/listeners a similar visualization. Right now, the majority of the population would not think of video games when we hear/read the word 'sport'. So right now - the answer is no.
However eventually, esport may become a dominate form of 'competitive entertainment' at which time current sports may be seeing a reverse decline. If such a scenario ever comes, we may say 'hey league is so common now, it is definition of sport'.
This is biased, you're asking league players if what they love is a sport
This poll q should define what a sport is before asking question... perhaps by defining it by traditional definition (physical activity; Wikipedia reference, or otherwise)
