Heading into the final week of the first half of the season, it's easy to see where the power lies. Alliance, the reborn squad with a chip on their shoulder and some of the best players in the region, have finally assumed the mantle they promised to have at the beginning of the year. The rest of the teams, while fighting valiantly, have all fallen behind. With six more weeks to go, the playoff picture is still hazy, but there's no question as to who will be the team to contend with.
Alliance vs. Millenium
When: Thursday, June 26, 19:00 CEST / 10:00 AM PDT
Now at 10-2, Alliance are one of the winningest teams in LCS history. The promise of the "superteam" is coming true before our very eyes. Spring season's mediocrity is gone - this team is deadly and they intend to make it to Worlds. The question at this point becomes more of whether or not anybody else can stop them.
Millenium may be just the team to do that. Kerp and his teammates have put on quite a show so far this season, and their third place seating is no accident. Their only problem right now is the danger of falling into the jumble at the middle of the pack. A loss last week to ROCCAT have put them close to falling in, but a strong win against Alliance will help them stay afloat, along with putting them within striking distance of first and second place.
SK Gaming vs. ROCCAT
When: Thursday, June 26, 21:00 CEST / 12:00 PM PDT
SK Gaming have had quite a year, both in finishing strong during the spring season, and starting strong in the summer. Currently sitting pretty in second place, SK are on a roll and are looking to turn it into another successful playoff run. The key behind SK is consistency, and they have stayed true to that one tenet. As long as they stay the course, they'll continue to play well.
Almost on the other end of the spectrum lie ROCCAT. Their spring season opened with flair and gusto, but they fell down in the latter part of the season to a mediocre finish. Then, they opened the summer with an abysmal 1-3 record, and did little to reverse that trend for the first half of the split. But now they are making somewhat of a comeback. In fact, they are on a 4-game winning streak and looking quite strong. The quality of games aside, ROCCAT are keying up for a strong finish, a welcome relief from the troubles that plagued them for the last several months. All eyes will be on Overpow, whose 20.0 KDA netted him an MVP nod last week. If he can keep up the pace, ROCCAT stand a fighting chance of crawling out of the bottom and possibly making up for their mid-year slump.
SK Gaming vs. Supa Hot Crew
When: Friday, June 27, 19:00 CEST / 10:00 AM PDT
An early winning streak for the Supa Hot Crew gave way to mid-season struggles, and now the team sits at 6-6. As they've been for most of the season, the team has yet to really make a statement that they want to get to the top. SELFIE's play has been inconsistent and unreliable, leaving star ADC MrRalleZ without much to rely on other than himself. Unless something changes, the Crew might get outpaced as the second half of the season gets going. Teams looking to make comebacks - like ROCCAT - might just steamroll these guys back into relegation.
Fnatic vs. Millenium
When: Friday, June 27, 20:00 CEST / 11:00 AM PDT
As another team in the middle of the pack, Fnatic have their own statement to make. Luckily, they seem to be working their way to get on track. Despite a 1-1 record last week, Rekkles continues to put out good games and seems to be more than comfortable in his role as team carry. At 6-6, they are still well within reach of a bye during playoffs. Their first speedbump in that endeavor comes in the form of Millenium this week. Fnatic is a team known for their late season surges, so expect the squad to come in strong looking to set themselves up for yet another strong playoff run.
