Community Spotlight: Episode 1

What can I say about the League of Legends esports community? You're awesome. You create some of the coolest stuff out there, and it helps everyone else get closer to the game and the competition. That’s why we want to help you out! Every week, I'm going to round up some of the best interviews, infographics, tier lists--you name it--and put it front and center on Lolesports.com. Have tips? Just drop me a line at [email protected] and I'll take a look! If it’s awesome and esports-related, we want it here.

Graphics and Lists

Infographics are one of the best ways to sum up a region’s games. What I like about Esportspedia’s setup is that they hit a lot of different statistical marks. They hit the high level numbers like records and contested champions, but also dive into granular stats like first blood location. You can check out each week of the North American and European graphics on their website. It was powerful to see the difference in win rates between teams that drew first blood and teams that took the first inhibitor in both regions. In North America, the rate jumps from 62.5% to 87.5%, but in Europe the first blood win rate was actually higher at 87.5% compared to 75% for first inhibitor. I'm curious to see how these numbers fluctuate each week. More interested in how your favorite team is doing from a numbers perspective? Cloth5's Abaxial breaks down common metrics like gold and minions per minute, then analyses them to show how the numbers relate to the team's strategy. I loved seeing how vastly different some teams are between victory and defeat - like LMQ and Curse who have the largest farming disparities.

Videos

One of my favorite parts of the LCS broadcast is the Sounds of the Game segment, where we get to hear what goes on over voice communications before and during the game. I get to referee some of the games, so I love hearing these real life moments make it to broadcast! This week, Gomba Plays made a mash-up of the sound bites from the NA and EU Super Week 7 that captures the fun side of competition. Even though EG has had disappointing week after disappointing week, Helios still pulled out a great Lee Sin play against compLexity. While the team’s new Korean jungle transfer hasn’t been successful in meshing with the rest of the roster quite yet, he’s still showing off the skills that have kept him in the pro scene for so long. LoL Pro Plays captures Rekkles’ Vayne pentakill After Xpecial became the first North American support to break 1000 assists Jayce Amumu created this tribute to the Curse support. Since moving from TSM to Curse, Xpecial has been getting a lot less attention, but as he states at the beginning of this video from the LCS broadcast, he’s confident that he and Cop are on the rise. What did you think of the stories I grabbed this week? Let me know on Twitter and recommend cool stuff for next week's showcase! Katana is a Rioter in Esports who wishes that carrying from support was easier and that Morgana was never banned. You can follow her on Twitter @RiotKatana
