Why do we have to choose which games to watch (two games streaming at the same time) instead of one long stream on the weekends? Having one long stream would allow more people to watch live (longer window) and for viewers to see more games (current max of 50%) live. This seems pretty obvious to me, what are the reasons for having two streams?

GeminiRune2 votesDude, that's risking the range of 8-12 hour days of broadcast coverage over the weekend (up to 14 depending on pause severity). Added onto that, there's the preparation for starting up broadcast and shutting down the equipment; both which would take 1 or 2 hours total in themselves. No job in general even comes close to doing that on a consistent basis. And this isn't some typical university day in which classes are held at certain times.
Yeah you could bring in more staff but what would that accomplish? You can't just bring in more casters and say hey longer single stream. Think of the casters, the backstage production crew, the players themselves, and even the fans.

Or they could play games on Thursday and go 2 on thursday, 2 on Friday and 3 each on Saturday and Sunday. Casters could easily rotate in and out.

First, Challenger Series takes place already on Wednesday and Thursday. No, they aren't as big, but that's why they are on less optimal days of the week and LCS gets prime weekend time for fans to enjoy.
Second, Riot has two tricked out studios for the broadcasts. Why make one worthless NOW after it being all set up? That's just a waste of resources.
Third, time. If six games were played all in one day, when would broadcast start? Noon EST? That means everyone in studio has to be in and be ready for a 9am start. Casters, players, production, spectators. On the other end, if all the games run long that day, the broadcast is going until around Midnight on the east coast. How many people would REALLY watch a 12 hour marathon EVERY WEEK? Even assuming there are a lot of lifeless NEETs, they will not be giving that much undivided attention. They will be playing their own matches or doing other things.
The format is fine as is.

All you literally have to do is pick one of the two to watch live, then after that stream hop on to a replay of the other stream you weren't able to watch. Like watching a replay you've never seen before, and a live stream won't reveal any spoilers, or take away the excitement of the games.
