Where Are the Women in eSports?

Found this interesting article on Polygon discussing eSports and the lack of women who compete. The article mentions League, along with several other eSports-heavy games. (If that makes it not 100% on-topic for this forum, I apologise, and maybe it would be more appropriate for Misc.)

One thing I find interesting is the fact that female viewership of eSports seems to be increasing, but the marketers spending money to promote and profit from eSports don't appear to care. There isn't enough information in the article to determine whether that's because viewership in the core male demographics are still increasing quickly enough that they aren't thinking about diversifying or whether female viewership has yet to pass some threshold where targeting them starts to make sense or some other reason.

I'd particularly love to hear what Riot's eSports people think about this.

Yup, nice article. Shame on eSport to reproduct EXACTLY the same mistakes again and again. Some will answer "no woman has (for now) the skill to attempt LCS". Yeah but why? Because eSport doesn't care about women, that's the truth.

Only ONE woman (Sjokz) actually appears during the LCS shows. What the f**ck? And when we see women in the gaming house, they are like doing stuff for the guys.

And thanks for bringing this topic here. Should talk a lot more about that.
