Tower Plate gold reporting

Why isn't the actual tower gold shown after 14 minutes during professional streams? I can understand that most of the time we have to just count the surviving plates and multiply, but a serious broadcast like this is supposed to be should be able to note the tower plates that fell with no local champion to collect it (wasted plates). I assumed they were doing that until a couple of streams showed that the 'gold earned' analysis is just counting.
