10 thoughts Week 9 -- "IMT is about to throw down the Olleh oop to cap their season."

Here's this week's 10 thoughts from @meanmisterkien!

This is the last 10 thoughts before playoffs where I will elevate my meme game to the next level. I hope you're ready. Who do you think will push all the way through playoffs? Which teams can actually contend?

I actually cancelled all plans this weekend and bought a couple of bags of popcorn. This is gonna be a very very intense weekend.

All the teams must be hoping P1 end up in 9-10th place to they take all 50 of theirn3rd place finish points with them to relegation. That leaves the door wide open for 4th place FQ 40 points and everyone other team.

The scarier thing is how many possibilities there are for the bottom teams, with the 8-10th having the same record and echo fox being just 1 game up. Combine this with Mickey "probably" starting this week and the potential he has to hard-carry games, and surprisingly every team including TL has a chance of avoiding being relegated out by both of the pretty good challenger teams.

Can we stop pretending Doublelift was in a position ever where he needed revenge against CLG? That implies he was a victim, when he never was. Or if it must be in basketball analogy form, that's like saying Durant got his revenge against OKC.

I think Doublelift said it was pretty surprising he got kicked from CLG. He felt betrayed and it was right after he won his first split ever. Also people tend to forget right after Doublelift got kicked Stixxay won a split with CLG and placed 2nd at MSI. Doublelift probably felt lots of pressure to prove he was still good and one of the reasons why CLG even won a LCS title in the first place.

Except Doublelift was talking with CLG guys about going to TSM before he was released. The shock was probably that he was outed before he could walk away. He already showed before then a lack of respect for contracts with how he was part of poaching Darshan onto CLG, and was already infamous for his ego problems. All combined, he wasn't a victim, he reaped what was sown and became the biggest sellout of Esports in the process.

I don't know about the Darshan poaching situation, but I think saying "lack of respect for contracts" is a little much in the situation, given that esports was just developing. The ego problems is a fair criticism. But calling him a sellout is probably the least accurate statement you could have made. Doublelift was ready to be a CLG for lifer. Watch the vids around his transition if you don't believe me. They all agree that essentially Aphro backstabbed him. I'm not saying that Aphro didn't have his reasons (big ego on Doublelift's side), but the manner that all went down in was unnecessary and cowardly.

Darshan poaching is pretty clear cut. Back when he was still ZionSpartan and on Dignitas he was under contract. By all accounts Doublelift was the guy who convinced Darshan to break contract and join CLG. While I can understand Esports is a young thing as far as organizations, contracts, and commitments, and also get that some of these guys are friends and acquaintances with players on other teams, and they are young and maybe not thinking decisions through completely, it boils down to a lack of respect for contracts and rules.

I don't see how DLift going from CLG to longtime rival he trashed on constantly in TSM is not selling out. Taking a moment to disregard all the drama and tales from one side or the other about leaving CLG, DLift did as much to build that rivalry outside actual matches as he did playing against them for years. Then that's the team he goes to. Even if you support DLift all the way, which if you do that is all well and good, it's selling his own pride and trash talk out.

As for all the stories....DLift claimed it was because of Aphromoo, I can't find a vid where Aphro admits that, HotshotGG claims DLift was talking to teammates about him and others among them going to TSM, and there is no concrete truth I have found all parties agreed with. What we do know is that DLift had issues with ego and being a supportive teammate. We know TSM offered him a nice contract and DLift did not immediately accept.

Frankly, given his history of personality clashes, it's hard to trust that DLift wasn't at least partly to blame for being released. I don't think that Aphromoo is blameless in everything, and perhaps it all could have been worked out better by CLG, but at the end of the day, was Doublelift really a victim deserving revenge? Clearly he thought so, but as an outside observer with no love for either team or any particular player involved, no, DLift was not a victim and this was a result of his personality and some poor decisions all around by all parties involved.

That is a fair point of view. Thank you for your response. I think the logical outside analysis of this situation is firmly in your court. However, I would like to point out some of the emotional and aesthetic sides as to why I've sided with DoubleLift (not claiming that he is a victim, per se).

I think most of my perspective has developed from really enjoying the "Rush Hour" botlane story, following both DLift and Aphro on stream and interviews. And honestly, listening to both speak makes me view Aphro as passive aggressive and unaware of his own flaws. Whereas DoubleLift is very aware of his own flaws and has strived to improve, which is all you can really ask. I think he benefited people on team liquid while he was there, and I think today both he and Aphro are good team players.

As for "trash talk" and "revenge", I think that most of that is just meant to be banter to hype up matchups, just like in every sport. Some people are loud mouths and just let things fly (definitely DoubleLift). I don't see anything wrong with that personally, but I can see how it would grate at some. I think this type of drama and hype is either entertaining or utter nonsense, depending on your perspective.

As for "selling out", if you mean that he switched sides in the biggest NA rivalry, and probably made a lot of money from that switch, then guilty on all counts. But I think my larger take away was simply the stories and values behind both CLG and TSM as organization. And I actually went from a potential CLG fan to a big TSM fan as a result of those stories.

He was kicked because his duo partner had enough of his BS. Sooner or later TSM will do the same. He stills gets the most gold funneled into him in terms of % and he doesn't the least with the amount given to him.

CLG despite swapping jungler a is still doing better than the days with DL

Have you tracked his whole story? Have you watched both Doublelift's and Aphromoo's response videos? I'm not saying Doublelift is blameless, but Aphro was a dick about the whole process, went behind Doublelift's back, and said me or him. For someone who was supposedly a friend, that was an unprofessional and a cowardly move. Both players have admitted to that. And honestly Doublelift's story and journey have made him my favorite player in the LCS.

Hope we get to see tie-breaker games this weekend, reminds me back in 14/15 coming home and watching 6-10 games, followed up by 2-3 tie-breakers staying up till 1-2 in the morning. Now with the overall records it's much harder for there to be tie-breakers.

Both TSM and IMT are 12-4 and both are 1-1 against each other. If they both win both their games this week, who takes first place bye? Is it total game record? Or do they have to play a tiebreaker match?

"If FlyQuest were an actual in-game quest, they would be an escort mission gone awry". I don't know why, but I found this line hilarious.
