LCS 2015 Summer Split awards presented on PTL and LCS Finals

In every split of the LCS, professional players inspire and dazzle us with their tenacity and greatness. But one player always stands out against the rest.

In the Spring Split, Team SoloMid's mid laner Søren "Bjergsen" Bjerg and SK Gaming's ADC Konstaninos "FORG1VEN" Tzortiou earned the MVP award for the NA and EU LCS.

We're pleased to announce that the tradition of honoring the league's best players will continue in the LCS Summer Split.

The Summer Split awards were determined by a panel of LCS casters, members of broadcast and content teams, writers, and the teams themselves. Panelists submitted ballots with their the top choices for each category, and each vote was weighted based on the order.

Over the next month, we will announce the winners of the awards for Best Coach, Outstanding Rookie, and the All Pro Team on PrimeTime League. The Most Valuable Player awards will be presented at the LCS Finals in New York City, USA and Stockholm, Sweden.

Im a TSM fan and I will be very upset if they get ANY award. They have been playing bad and having bad comps. Not sure who I would give it to, just not TSM.

I would say Bjergsen is the best player on the team but by no means the best player in the region. He is up there sure but not the best, if not his mechanical ability then his positioning needs to get better. I just have the image of him running up to gold card the enemy adc while the rest of the team is disengaging and then he got Maokai rooted and killed (he also ran towards raptors when the rest of TSM ran to mid, leaving him off by himself. I can't remember who they were playing but that was just one of the many blunders hes done recently.

.... What are you going to do when you do 50% of your teams damage? Sometimes you have to take risks... Bjergsen wins lane 95% of the time (20cs up at 10 mins is practically a kill) and goes even the other 5%. He is the only mid laner in the region to put up the damage contribution that he does. Yes he made that one misplay against that team (I forget TIP or TL i think) but what other midlaner has not made any misplays LOL. Fenix (overrated imo, guy plays 1 champ only) had about 10 misplays 20 mins after against TIP on his only champion. No other mid laner or any player in NA can compare to Bjergsen. Even the other LCS midlaners know this LOL.

As much as I dislike TSM Bjerg is the star player and essentially has to 2v8 with lustboy most games. The only other player that really carries a team of all bad players is probably Altec, but since this isn't really an adc meta he can't do it as well as a mid. The MVP award either needs to go to Altec, Bergsen, or maybe Rush, those three are the stars of their teams and pretty much the only reason they're as good as they are.

The EU awards (with the possible exception of their all-pro team) are somewhat easy to predict. NA much less so. I really don't know who you give the awards to in a league with so much parity and so much mediocrity.

Having the in-game skill and having an eye for constructive criticism are not the same thing. One can rightfully observe that NA has parity ("Mediocrity" feels a bit strong, though, doesn't it?) from any skill tier. Just because one might not be able to reproduce skilled results doesn't mean they can't understand them. Not to mention, I'm only in Silver, but my tournament record includes significant victories over teams populated with Gold through Diamond ranked players, clearly "above my skill level".

In other words, lay off, guys. He's right, overall. (I still disagree with that use of the word "mediocrity", though.)

People are overconfident that EU > NA but other than Fnatic none of the EU teams are better than NA. TL,CLG,TIP are all on Origen level in my opinion.

Also, they keep saying that because of TSM got rekt by FNC at MSI but TSM is currently not a good team, let FNC play against the best teams of NA and see what happen next.

I understand people objecting to my use of the term mediocrity, but I stand by it. Obviously, the NA LCS has world class players on world class teams. When I use the term, I'm not comparing them to the vast playerbase. I'm comparing them to other world class players and world class teams. And compared to other world class players and teams in other world class leagues, or compared to past seasons in the NA LCS, the 2015 NA LCS Summer Split looked incredibly mediocre.

To make a different sports analogy, calling this a season of mediocrity is like calling the NBA Eastern Conference "weak". Sure, a team like Cleveland can turn it on in the playoffs and have a chance to win it all. Sure, most Eastern Conference teams have a chance to win against even the best Western Conference teams. Sure, any Eastern Conference team (other than the Philadelphia 76ers) could go to a lesser basketball league and mop up (Just as any NA LCS team would be expected to crush an International Wild Card team). But that doesn't stop us from looking at how amazing the Western Conference is, and being comparatively unimpressed by the Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors, and Chicago Bulls, all of whom could very accurately be called "mediocre".

Parity can mean a lot of things. It can mean that everybody is great, it could mean that everybody is average, or it could mean that everybody is trash. This season in NA, we had an endless series of teams that looked good, got hyped, and then not only lost, but looked bad in those losses. That, to me, is what mediocrity looks like.

actually i would put Febs over peke. Peke team is about Soaz and Niels with Amazing leading the charge, Peke doesnt do much on the team compared to Febiven (he's not the weakest part of fnatic).

Febiven the weakest part?! The few problems that Fnatic may have are certainly not player based, and even though I love him and will always love him I don't think that xpeke is better than him.

Did you watch diferent games than everyone else? Febiven might be the strongest part of the team outside Yellowstars shotcalling. Everytime Fnatic was playing sloppy Febiven was there making big plays to save them and he is the one who will always play good if his 4 teammates play sloppy.

I can second this: Remember when they were getting REKT by Gambit, and Febiven's Jayce came back and basically single-handedly won them the game? I also remember some stellar Azir plays and so forth. Febiven is an amazing midlaner, and has the edge of being "new blood" against xPeke. shrug they're both a hell of a lot better than I am at midlane, so mad props to 'em both.

Indeed. After Yellowstar overall talent (mood, shotcall, roam/supporting), Febiven is by far the best player in Fnatic. In the 3 games where Fnatic was loosing (and some loosing hard), i'm talking about the Gambit game, and the last H2K et Origen game, it's Febiven who showed up very strong and carried the team hard. Moreover, i'd say remember the MSI and the SKT serie. You don't take solo kill on Faker, or tie the serie 2-2 without a great midlaner who can manage him.

Honestly I'm at a loss for the 3rd place for EU rookie with their description

The 3rd place Rookie replaced an innovator of the EU LCS. This player struggled in his first appearances in the league, often going down early to opposing laners. But since then, he's found his niche as a main initiator, often leading his team into the fray -- and, eventually, into the Playoffs. Just don't forget to chant his name when he makes a sick play.

So we have a player in one of the 6 teams that reached playoffs, and didn't play all split; that leaves us with ROC MrRalleZ (replaced Woolite as ADC starting week 4) and UoL Gilius (who subbed for week 8 and 9 after Kikis's departure). On the one hand, the description mentions "going down early to opposing laners", so a jungler feels a bit odd, however "innovator" doesn't describe at all, and "main initiator" doesn't fit any ADC, so that must be Gilius (considering Kikis fits the "innovator" description), but then using the word "often" twice in three sentences about a player who played only 4 games, well... And the last sentence talks about chanting his name when he "makes a sick play" (can't remember any from Gilius) when he won't be playing in the LCS in the near future, as he was only a temporary sub for weeks 8 and 9 and the new jungler is H0R0... Putting a player who played only 4 games in the top 4 rookies of the split really show they didn't have many to go with.

As for NA, I guess 3rd place rookie is one from TDK.

P.S. considering the back and worth there was after the hints for 4th spot in NA and how many people were not sure who would qualify as a "rookie", it would surely have been a nice touch if they had listed in the article all "rookies" in EU and NA.

So Coach Chris comes in and takes over a mediocre team, teaches them how to be a team, takes them the very top of the NALCS, and yet isnt even in the running for coach of the split... ok
