Week 8

Rielley: Froggen or Betsy mid lane this week?

Jayway: Froggen. Although Froggen plays against a dominant H2K squad, it's still very difficult to neutralize him. He's failed to break 35 fantasy points just twice this split and even in losses, Froggen is the No. 3 overall mid laner. Betsy showed some vulnerability at IEM Katowice when his comfort champions were denied; a player of Froggen's caliber should be able to take advantage of that when GMB and EL play head-to-head.

Logan: Are CW/GMB's big point sprees over?

JW: Yes. The Wolves this split have been erratic with their fantasy scoring. Here’s a list of their players’ average point totals over each week: 16.1, 8.3, 35.3, 18.0, 30.8, 9.1, 16.0 pts/game. In other words, CW players should be played based on matchups; and their schedule this week (vs. UOL and SK) looks dangerous. If you can afford to hold onto Freeze and company for Week 9, you will be rewarded as their final games are against weaker oppositions. Meanwhile, GMB has also cooled off and IEM didn't help re-ignite them either as they were eliminated in the Group Stage rather quickly. That being said, GMB's players hovered around 21.6 pts/game in Week 6, and 17.7 pts/game in Week 7, good enough to stay in the top half of all LCS teams. You can start them relatively safely, but don't expect a downpour of points.

Keegan: Doublelift or Forg1ven as starting ADC?

JW: Forg1ven. This one was really difficult to determine. Forg1ven is coming off a disappointing run at IEM Katowice, but should able to turn things around this week. He plays against CW, a team he's familiar with, as well as an inconsistent MYM squad that has allowed over 20 pts/game to opposing ADCs this split (21.8 pts/game over the past 2 weeks). In Week 7, Doublelift had a good opportunity to score tons of points against CST and GV, but still ended up below Forg1ven. His projection doesn't look as good for Week 8 with a showdown against top-seeded TSM on Day 2.

Craig: Is it worth keeping any Elements members on my roster?

JW: Keep Froggen. Bench or drop the rest. In 7 weeks of LCS play, Froggen has been either the No. 1 or 2 scorer for the team in each individual week. The next most "consistent" player has been Rekkles, appearing in Elements' top two in just four of those weeks. Krepo has been their No. 3 scorer since joining the team (at 10.7 pts/game), which is a major issue because support players score the least amount of points out of all the positions. Yes, that means that Shook, Wickd and Kev1n have been below 10 pts/game for a long time. The outlook appears even worse when neither top laner they've brought to the Rift has surpassed that mark since Week 4. You should be actively looking for solid replacements (H2K's Loulex is owned in just 26.6% of leagues, for example).

Jonah: Huni or Odoamne?

JW: Odoamne. If you asked this question during the early part of the season, the answer would have been Huni by a landslide. But recently, Huni's been on a downward trend (from 27.5 pts/game during Weeks 1-5 down to 16.5 pts/game in Weeks 6 and 7). Meanwhile, a surging Odoamne takes on Elements, a team that was torched for fantasy points during Week 7, giving up 50 points alone to top laners. His other opponent is MYM, who is allowing the 3rd most amount of fantasy points to top laners in either LCS.

Remember these roster swaps!

As has come increasingly common this season, teams are experimenting with roster swaps to make one last push into the postseason. This week, Winterfox and Team Coast have changed things up. Here's the list, so change up your Fantasy LCS rosters accordingly:

Team Winterfox

  • Altec is replacing Paragon in the AD carry position.
  • Gleeb is replacing Altec in the support position.
  • Paragon moves back to the bench.

Team Coast

  • WTHeaven is replacing Impaler in the jungle position.
  • KonKwon is replacing Sheep in the support position.

Welp, this is what I get for listening to you guys... thanks, Fantasy. I managed to pick up and started Odoamne OVER Huni this week, and what happens? Huni goes ham, scores over SEVENTY FOUR POINTS, while Odoamne gives me a lousy 22 1/2. I'm trusting my gut from here on out, this mailbag consultation segment is turning out to be as helpful as consulting tea leaves. At least I'm still on track to win my matchup this week. :/
