The Breakdown: Winning a 3 vs. 5 fight

It’s rare that we cover a fight where a team wins without a numbers advantage, but that’s exactly what happened during Game 4 of G2 vs. Fnatic in the EU LCS Spring Split Semifinals, and that's what we're covering this week on The Breakdown.

On The Breakdown, we often talk about the importance of forcing a numbers advantage. 21 minutes into the game, as G2 are attempting to defend their mid lane turrets in a 3v5 situation, they turn the fight around and prevent Fnatic from surging ahead in the game. With G2 losing Trick and Zven after sneaking an early Baron, Fnatic is in a situation where they want to push their numbers advantage swiftly - as they have Rekkles' Tristana and Caps' Kayle who excel at killing turrets.

Let’s get into it.

A couple of misplays by Fnatic went a long way in allowing G2 to effectively win this fight, but credit to G2 for being able to capitalize. If Kayle's Reckoning had actually hit Cassiopeia then Rekkles would have easily secured that kill and the siege could have continued. Also, if Lee Sin had actually kicked Gangplank instead of going for the highest priorty target it would have been a higher gain as well. Lower chance of failure = lower reward, but GP's barrels would have been out of the fight at that point too. Camille's dive to start that fight was unnecessary and she could have just as easily saved it to secure a pick later in the fight. All in all, this looked like a teamfight out of one of my Silver games.

Honestly that was not a Win Per Se. that was just a defense. Title should be Surviving a 3v5 Fight
