The only reason i started playing this game was because of this event happening in my home town, what are dedicated players thoughts on this? i've barely reached lv. 30 and have not started playing competitive yet but i was top-500 in Overwatch.

Yeah, It's cool but not really out of the norm. A ton of High School and even College teams I've seen are composed of Silver/Gold players. I'm on my university team and we're all only around high Platinum and Diamond.
