Could strategic diversity benefit from more bans?

Hello everyone!

During a Discussion about the number of bans in Dynamic Queue, I thought about the influence more bans would have on competitive play. I couldn't help but notice that the currently probably best teams in NA, CLG and Immortals, both played a very similar comp every game during spring split. People tried to use pick/ban to force them onto another strategy, but it never quite worked out, there just weren't enough bans. That was especially obvious when Adrian's defensive supports were targeted. He just alternated between Janna, Soraka and Karma, and he didn't even play Lulu, another similar champ that people banned against him.

Now, in retrospect, we know what happened when they were forced to change their strategy due to a meta change. CLG succeded, Immortals didn't. We could really see how good CLG's skills at reading and playing the meta are, and we could also see that Immortals struggled with it. It was very exciting to watch them play something different, and imho a great display of skill.

What if we had that excitement of more strategic diversity every game, especially now with Bo3 and Bo2? What if we had enough bans to not only ban out specific pick/ban champs, but force the opposing team to alter their strategy? It seems like an exciting idea to me. What do you guys think?

If you need 5 bans to dismantel another teams comp/strategy then there is something wrong with your team. You can easily adjust 1 ban which causes the most problems and pick away 1/2 of the comps compenents. In this meta there are a lot of the same picks (in jungle/toplane/adc esspecially)

Imo creating more bans would actually hurt champion diversity. Think about it, currently there's only about 20-25 champions that are constantly getting selected, and you want to give them the ability to ban 10 of them? You really want to see the exact same 15 champions getting rotated around each game? Honestly we ask for more bans, and that will be fun and awesome for the first couple of weeks, then it'll go back towards a stale group of champions that get picked over and over. What widens the pick pool is balance, not more bans.
