"He's a stun bot," laughs Daerek "LemonNation" Hart of Veigar. "He brings a stun and that's basically it."
After extensive solo queue practice on the Tiny Master of Evil, LemonNation pulled out the surprise support pick in Cloud9's Week 5 win against Team Impulse. With a
2/1/7 KDA and a decisive victory, it seems to be a rather effective pick. That is, in certain situations.
"You want to build a comp around him," LemonNation tells Lolesports. "He works the best in skillshot/poke type comps. With Nidalee, with Xerath, Corki, things like that. I'll stun and they'll follow up with range. Because he's not actually that good in an all in, because he stuns and doesn't really do that much afterwards. You just want to stun, poke them, harass them, and then back up. Poke, harass over and over again."
The way LemonNation itemizes allows him to do exactly that. "I almost always just get [Talisman of Ascension]," he says. "That's basically the best item on him, just because, in the comp, you want to stun and have the opportunity to run away, or have the opportunity to run at them to get the stun if you're super far ahead. It gives you a lot of choice in the fights, which is what you want in a poke comp."
Of his Veigar rune page, Lemon explains that you want to be super fast. "Move speed quints are the most important thing," he says.
Once he does get in range, Veigar's Event Horizon is ready to make its impact. "It's easier to get the stun with Veigar than any other champion in the game," explains Lemon. "It's so long range and it's instant, so I can choose to stun whoever I want, as long as I don't miss it. It's a huge zoning [skill]. It stuns someone and zones off the rest of their team. They can't engage, and you get to freeze that person to just harass or dumpster them."
Sure, support Veigar may not be as damage-focused as his mid lane counterpart, but his ultimate certainly has some impact against squishier AP opponents. "We were just against LeBlanc, and that's a perfect situation for Veigar's ult," says Lemon. "She builds zero MR items, and then builds straight AP. My ult was doing, like, half her life just by itself. And she has to go in, so she gets close enough for me to actually ult her."
With his stunning prowess and insane zoning, it wouldn't be shocking to see Veigar make a reappearance in the LCS. Keep an eye on
