Worlds at 24 teams

Hi,

I am writing you with an idea which i believe would improve league of legends, increase vieweship across all regions and increase investment from team owners in their respective teams. The idea is to increase teams participating in Worlds to 24 teams.

Participating teams

During this year's worlds, teams from minor regions like the CBLOL or the LCL have impressed and caused some big upsets on the international stage. This is not new to worlds level and even though such teams are not on the same level as the Korean or Chinese teams, it has been evidenced that they have a lot of potential and play very good league of legends.

With a world championship at 24 teams, it would be appropriate to give those teams which play in 'smaller' regions the opportunity to qualify directly to worlds by winning their respective leagues. Apart from the league champions, another team would qualify through playoffs (like it happens in the EU or NA LCS).

Format

The Worlds Format would then consist of 6 groups of 4 teams each. The top 2 qualify to the next round while the 4 'best' 3rd placed teams would qualify to the round of 16 as well. This would extend the worlds duration by around two to three weeks. Having more teams will certainly be healthier in terms of competition, diversity in playing style and create a better atmoshpere in general.

Viewership

With more teams participating from more regions, viewership from participating regions will most certainly increase by drastic margins (especially if more than 1 team from the small regions is participating). This will also contribute greatly to the revenue earned from such competition which can lead to higher prize pools for qualified teams.

Investment from team owners

Having a more realistic opportunity to participate in the world championship and therefore increase team revenue, it will drive team owners (and potenial investors in e-sports) to invest in their entities to enhace their team's capabilities to a level where they can compete with stronger regions.

Over time it is highly probably that these regions can prodcue team of high quality which can seriously challenge the top tier teams for the championship and create a better atmosphere at the tournament as a whole.
