Bringing League of Legends to school.

For about a year now I've been trying to get enough people in my school to sign a petition to get an Esports club in our school. There are barriers but those can resolved easily once Riot looks at this and does something.

There is a professional league scene and an amateur scene like there are for many sports. However almost every high school and college has a football team, basketball team, or any number of sports but not one has a competitive school sponsored Esports team.

My proposal is that Riot looks into and develops a version of league of legends that is specifically made for a school team. In the age of technology we currently preside in everything is becoming more technical and electronic. My question is when does every school start to get an Esports team? A year, a decade, or even longer? League of Legends and other Esports games have received recognition from their respective communities and several pro sports players have come out saying that League of Legends is comparable to a sport or a sport all its own. This just begs to question, "When will my school get an Esports team?". If Riot were to make a program that allowed schools to gain easy, user friendly access to League of Legends then the students at every school in the nation would be gain the chance to change something that is important to them. The community of League of Legends has always been amazing and if that community expanded to schools then what limits are there to a united community and developer where everyone is involved whether they just play the game or make the game. I want to be able to look at schools in the future and say "Yeah I played that game when I was in high school and look how great it's become, <insert your perfect League of Legends future>".

This game has changed people and their lives all over the world and while my idea isn't perfect it can be if the community and Riot work together, make it better, and commit to it then it can be a reality.

I leave the community with a question. If you could play League of Legends at school as a team, or when you were in high school or college, would you?

I would love a League of Legend School League, almost like the minor league for baseball or district championship for individual states.

A tactic I have heard of working is to first start it as a club, but tackle the e-sports side hard. In other words, start a club but hold regular team practice, in-house tournaments and enter into every tournament you can. If you can grab faculty (seriously, a lot of teachers play League, ask around) and start getting money you can start getting attention from the school's higher ups and maybe even the school board.

The main obstacle to e-sports teams in schools is and always will be the fact that they run on a different infastructure. It's like gas and electric cars. Sure the latter makes more sense and is easier, but you don't exactly see as many charging stations as gas stations do you? Same thing here, although with less political espionage. School systems and organizations in general just don't know how to handle e-sports, it's not similar enough to regular sports to be approached the same way.

It would be sooo cool. I can imagine something like this working like a chess club or something like that, but I'm not sure if any school would happily grant students access to the computer room without a teacher's supervision. Also a real team has to practice multiple hours at a time so you would take the room for that time. Good luck with it though
