2015 World Championship Regional Seeds

Riot·6/10/2015, 12:50:57 PM·0 votes·101,972 views

As we begin the march towards the 2015 World Championships, we’re excited to reveal the final seeds per region. Below is a breakdown of the regional seeding for the upcoming 2015 Worlds compared to the 2014 tournament:

What’s changed around seeding?

For the most part, the seeds per region haven’t changed between 2014 and 2015 with the exception of Southeast Asia and Taiwan.

Southeast Asia: GPL and LMS

In 2014, the GPL included the top teams from both Taiwan and Southeast Asia. After the split of last year’s GPL into the LMS (composed of the top teams in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau) and the current GPL (composed of teams representing the rest of Southeast Asia), we’ve transferred the league’s two guaranteed seeds to LMS, while also giving GPL a qualification path to Worlds through an International Wildcard Qualifier. Based on historical and recent performance, we feel that LMS merits the two seeds that it historically earned through the GPL, while the new GPL deserves a chance to compete for a spot at Worlds with other growing markets in the International Wildcard Qualifiers.

International Wild Card Regions and Qualifiers

Two new leagues, Southeast Asia’s GPL and Japan’s LJL, will join the fight to be a part of Worlds. They will participate along with Oceania, Latin America, Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Turkey, and Brazil in the International Wild Card Qualifiers. The top team from each IWC region will compete in two qualifier tournaments, each of which will qualify a single team to participate in 2015 Worlds:

  • Qualifier 1: CIS, Brazil, and Latin America
  • Qualifier 2: Southeast Asia, Turkey, Japan, and Oceania

The first IWC Qualifier tournament will be played in Chile and the second IWC Qualifier will be played in Turkey. We’ll share more information about the Group Draw as we get closer to Worlds, as well as following each region’s progress as teams get closer and closer to the 2015 World Championship. Tune in along with us to see which teams will qualify to represent their regions at Worlds in Europe later this year.

It took 4-7 months to release OCE, BR or Turkish server (since announcement till release). It takes more than one year already to release japanese server (counting since Riot Games Tokyo was announced). Japanese teams - without their own server, being forced to practice with higher ping, abroad - can't be prepared good enough to fight all these regions, with their own server and years/months of comfortable practice, everyday. Especially turkish team, which play at their "home". Last IWC tournament showed that so well (turkish team have won in Turkey - was it hard to predict?). I know, every team want fame and money... but all, that japanese teams are getting now is disrespect, from majority of LoL's players (except anime lovers), for being one of the worst (if not the worst) region, that is just going to feed/ give easy points to their opponents at IWC tournament. It will not change... till Japan gets their own - long awaited - server in this "old game".

I wish It wasn't so bad for Japan as I say... but as I live here, I see what is going on with japanese players and LoL. Season 5 is going to an end soon and there is no japanese server yet. So many japanese talented players are not interested to play with high ping and different language... players, that you see in japanese league, call themselves "pros", when in fact, real pros didn't even start to play this game yet (who heard about Faker before there was a korean server?). Sorry for my "engrish" - not my mother language.

Dear Riot, I am officially high jacking this forum...and using it to complain about not having a Japanese Server. I 100% agree with Risuzaru previous comment, and to add insult to injury there hasn't been a single update or shred of info about what the hold up is. Nothing anxious gamers love more than to be left in the dark......I mean honestly who's working on this server George R Martin??? 5 year later still working on that 6th book..smh....(game of thrones reference). Even if have you have to make some major modifications down the line....wouldn't releasing the server before worlds and patching later be a better alternative. start building that player base, and allowing people to get a taste for league Or better yet rewarding your already faithful Japanese gamers.

Madgame3 P.S just give us a date!

I don't understand how Riot can say they give a shit about Japan while trying to make them compete without a server.

I also live in Japan, and it sucks to play at 220 ping. I talk to my students all the time about games, and while the vast majority play console games made in Japan, they have nothing against PC games. Possibly as many as 20% of the boys play Minecraft. They are interested when I tell them about my favorite games - LOL and Hearthstone - until I tell them that they are only in English. Of course it would be good for their English, but when they play games, they're just looking to have fun and relax, so not a single student has tried them. Riot, you are the only one holding back PC gaming in Japan at this point - Hurry up!
