Drafted players suddenly announced to not be playing

During my draft I decided to spend my third pick on Impact from NRG, predicting he would be a good carry to rely on, and then halfway through EU LCS I discover a notification stating that he won't even be playing! So I'm suddenly forced to pick another player that wasn't picked up, and all EU top laners are locked, leaving me with few options that are satisfactory. Why exactly are we not picking a POSITION on a team? I have a few other people in my league that picked players that aren't even playing, such as Hai not playing in the first C9 game, and it raises a lot of questions as to why this is even a thing. I'd like to know that I don't have to run around on a sudden notification that one of the people I expended a valuable pick on during draft has been benched. Can this be changed for next split please? It's an annoyance that really isn't needed for people who just want to have fun as a group.
